Earlier today, Adam Schefter of ESPN reported that Randy Lerner has sold the Cleveland Browns to Jimmy Haslam for over $1 billion. Schefter reports that the deal occurs in two phases. In the first phase, Haslam will buy the controlling share of the team for about $700 million. In the second phase, Haslam will buy the remaining share of the Browns for about $300 million. Haslam is the president and CEO of Pilot Flying J, a Tennessee based operator of travel centers with over 550 retail locations. Haslam is also a minority investor in the Pittsburgh Steelers. His share of the Steelers will be sold off pending league approval of the Browns purchase. Current owner Randy Lerner inherited the Browns in 2002 when his father, Al Lerner, passed away just three years after purchasing the franchise from the NFL for $530 million. [follow]

Replacement officials will work Sunday Night's Hall of Fame game

It's something that some of us feared, and some of us ignored. According to Adam Schefter, replacement referees are lined up to officiate Sunday Night's Hall of Fame game, the first preseason game of 2012. The simple fact that replacement officials will actually be taking the field should be somewhat daunting for members of the NFLRA. It is league policy for...

New Browns Owner Jimmy Haslam Addresses the Cleveland Media

When Jimmy Haslam III arrived in Berea, Ohio, the first thing he noticed was the water tower that stands proudly next to the Ohio Turnpike. The first thing that jumped out to him was the giant, orange Browns helmet that graces the side. A business man through and through, Haslam could only think to himself, “way to go.” With as much of a southern drawl as anyone who has addressed...

Jimmy Haslam Represents Possibility and Opportunity

Now that it has sunk in that the Browns have a new owner, I am extremely happy at the prospects. There are no guarantees that Jimmy Haslam is going to do this thing right, but it represents opportunity for Browns fans to have something that most didn’t even think possible a few short weeks ago. These newly owned Browns have potential for something new and different that hasn...
