Browns wide receiver Josh Cribbs (concussion) sat out today's practice with his concussion and safety T.J. Ward was idle after undergoing surgery to repair his broken right thumb a couple of days ago.
The two were among six players sitting out practice today in preparation for Sunday's game against the Giants, and all are day-to-day.
"(Ward had) the same procedure (Ray Ventrone) had and he's back,'' said Shurmur.
Ventrone, who plays primarily on special teams, had a plate and six screws inserted in his left thumb after breaking on the opening kickoff against the Eagles in the opener. He sat out the following week against the Bengals, but was back in week three against the Bills, wearing a cast on his hand.
"It's pretty similar,'' said Ventrone. "It is kind of weird. He's tough and he has longer than I did between games. He's got an extra few days. It was about a week before I practiced. Hopefully he's able to go.''

Phil Taylor eager to get back but “won’t push it”
One of the nicer stories in an otherwise disappointing year so far for the Browns has been the defensive line. Much-maligned John Hughes and surprising late-rounder Billy Winn have been surprisingly good filling in for Phil Taylor. While it is a nice story, there’s no doubt that it would be an even better one if they were coming in to spell Taylor rather than filling in for him...
Shurmur confirms that T.J. Ward had thumb surgery
Daryl Ruiter and a host of other Browns beat reporters all reported from their talks with Pat Shurmur this morning that T.J. Ward had surgery on his right thumb. It was also reportedly the same procedure that Bubba Ventrone had previously. Ward is considered “day-to-day” for whatever that means.
The Browns have the Super Bowl champion New York Giants coming up this weekend. The...
“Cleveland ’95: A Football Life” will be mandatory viewing for me
I’ve read countless tweets from Browns fans saying they won’t watch this documentary about the 1995 Cleveland Browns. Tony Grossi wrote about it and likened it to reliving a family member’s funeral. While those scenes depicting the stadium being torn apart might cause me to shed a few tears, after seeing the sneak preview, I think I’ll have to watch it because there is so...
Dawson delivers honest assessment of Browns
BEREA -- The negativity and frustration about the Cleveland Browns was increasing last week when a not-so-subtle message of encouragement was delivered to the team and public by one of the few players with the experience and credibility to deliver it.
Hey Cleveland, what u r seeing is not the same old Browns, read the message on Twitter. Trust me. I feel it. I can hardly wait until...
The Last Thing The Browns Defense Needed Was An Injury To T.J. Ward Who Underwent Surgery
Well Browns safety T.J. Ward end up being a giant disappointment to the Cleveland Browns? Ward who hard surgery to his hand will miss some time, this is the last thing the Browns already weakened secondary needed secondary due to the Joe Haden suspension. The Browns will face the New York Giants on Sunday and they will be exposed to the passing game of one Eli Manning without the...
Cleveland Browns: Week 5 NFL Power Rankings (#32)
Last week: 32
Record: 0-4
The Browns are the worst team in the league, but they’re not awful. They haven’t lost a single one of their games by more than 10 points. They rank 23rd in the league in yards per play differential, bad but not awful. They’ve done this mostly with their best player being suspended. There just really isn’t a truly awful team in the NFL, at least one...
Browns Coach Pat Shurmur Facing Uphill Battle To Keep Job
Cleveland Browns coach Pat Shurmur is trying to buck history by joining Jim Schwartz as the only men in recent NFL history to prove that two bad years dont make a doomed head coach, Steve Doerschuk of the Canton Repository reports.
Shurmur has lost 13 of its last 14 games and incoming owner Jimmy Haslam and his staff will be evaluating how the team performs under Shurmur, but...
Browns' Cribbs not afraid after vicious hit
Browns wide receiver Josh Cribbs doesn't remember much about the vicious hit that knocked him unconscious last week against Baltimore.
Cribbs was cleared to practice Wednesday by team doctors for the first time since the hit that flattened him on a kickoff return in Thursday night's loss to the Ravens. Cribbs said that despite being out cold that he wanted to go back in...

Pat Shurmur Survival Guide
Beyond some miraculous, mythological football heaven intervention, it doesn’t appear that the Browns’ current losing streak will reverse itself any time soon.
2013 NFL Draft: Mock Draft
Click here if you’re looking for my Draft Value Board (Similar to a Big Board.) The order of this mock draft was decided by an estimate of each team’s final record, not the final 1. The Cleveland Browns select: Jarvis Jones | LB | Georgia I still don’t see any elite prospects in [...]

Browns KR Josh Cribbs Admits Fear After Knockout Blow
Browns RB Josh Cribbs was talking up a storm to the media after practice Wednesday afternoon.
There is typically nothing unusual about that. But anyone who saw the veteran kickoff returner knocked out Thursday night in Baltimore would be surprised that he was back in action less than a week later or that he could speak with such clarity about the frightening incident.
Cribbs...
Browns WR Josh Cribbs Returns To Team Practice
Browns wide receiver Josh Cribbs returned to practice today, just six days after getting blasted in the head by Ravens linebacker Dannell Ellerbe, Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
The return of Cribbs was a welcome sight for Browns coach Pat Shurmur, because two of his other receivers were still missing: Mohamed Massaquoi with his pulled hamstring, and Travis...
