When Matt Bryant is on the sideline, fully aware the game might be decided by his right leg, he'll drape a towel over his head to shut out the world.
He barely pays attention to the game. He doesn't hear the crowd.
A sense of calmness sweeps over him. For some reason, the towel acts ''like a force field.''
His methods work. No kicker has been more clutch than Bryant over the last three years - and especially this season. He has won three games for the Atlanta Falcons in the final minute of regulation, including a 49-yard field goal with 8 seconds left in last Sunday's thrilling playoff victory over the Seattle Seahawks. Since the start of the 2010 season, he has five winning kicks, more than anyone else.

Atlanta Falcons kicker Matt Bryant was a guest on WCNN in Atlanta (via SportsRadioInterviews.com) with the Rude Awakening and he was asked about the pressure of kicking a game-winning field goal the way he did this past Sunday.
“I’ve tried to approach every kick the same way — the nerves, the emotion and everything else, it’s definitely there leading up to the game. For...
Atlanta Falcons kicker Matt Bryant has been great all season. He recently shared his secret for making big kicks with a radio show.
The Atlanta Falcons got the monkey off their backs on Sunday by winning their first playoff game since 2004, and kicker Matt Bryant deserves much of the credit. Bryant connected on all three of his field goal attempts against the Seattle Seahawks, including a game-winning 49-yarder as time expired.
Bryant was clutch all throughout the regular season, converting 33-of-38 field goals...
Jacquizz Rodgers is a second-year running back for the Atlanta Falcons out of Oregon State. And while he may not be a household name just yet, he has a name that nevertheless is certainly unique, one that sticks in your head upon hearing it.
Speaking of things sticking, Rodgers was photographed rocking a t-shirt that bears a message incorporating “Quizz,” the nickname he goes...
Cornerback Christopher Owens practiced with the Atlanta Falcons for the first time in nearly a month Thursday, and star defensive end John Abraham remains hobbled by an injured left ankle.
Owens had been out since injuring a hamstring in a Dec. 22 victory at Detroit. He was back on the field on a limited basis, raising hopes that he'll be able to play in Sunday's NFC championship...
Michael Turner's trademark high-pitched laugh filled the Falcons' locker room.
Asked about San Francisco quarterback Colin Kaepernick, Turner said ''I'm glad I'm not on defense.''
Turner, the big running back, and the Falcons' offense want to hold the ball and limit Kaepernick's time on the field in Sunday's NFC championship game.
Atlanta Falcons coach Mike Smith provided some good news for his team when he announced on Wednesday that he expects his team's best pass-rusher, John Abraham, to be in the starting lineup for Sunday's NFC championship game against the San Francisco 49ers. However, Abraham did not practice on Wednesday, and the Falcons are making contingency plans in case Abraham cannot...
(Eds: APNewsNow. Will be updated. With AP Photos.) By PAUL NEWBERRY AP Sports Writer Tony Gonzalez remembers talking to Michael Strahan after the former New York Giants defensive lineman won a Super Bowl title in his final game.
That's the way Gonzalez wants to do it.
He's two wins away from going out a champion.
The top-seeded Falcons (14-3) host the San Francisco 49ers...
It’s hard to believe that it doesn’t happen more often, but the two top seeds in the NFC did their job; they protected home field and have advanced to meet each other for the right to head to New Orleans as the NFC representative in the Super Bowl.
With a dominating performance over my preseason Super Bowl pick, the Niners demolished the Packers to head to Atlanta to take on...
According to The Seattle Times, about 87 percent of the televisions in the Seattle area were tuned into this past Sunday’s game against the Falcons.
Overall, the Seahawks’ 30-28 loss to the Atlanta Falcons on Fox earned a 79 Nielsen share for the entire game (meaning the percentage of televisions turned on) and a rating of 45.6 percent of the total TV market in Seattle, according...
Editor Note: the wild playoff win this weekend over the Seattle Seahawks inspired long-time Altanta Falcons fan Alex Webster to write about the great Falcons win:
I have been a Falcons fan since the early 70's when my dad would take me to see them perpetually lose in the old Atlanta Fulton County baseball stadium. You had to be a long time Falcon fan watching the Falcons...
Finally, the NFC is down to the two final teams that many had been anticipating for quite some time. While I had the Niners getting bounced last week just like I had back in the preseason, I still believed the Falcons would find a way to get the job done.
They have done just that and now they have to take on arguably the best team in all of football. Their defense is flat out dirty...
Atlanta Falcons defensive lineman John Abraham aggravated his ankle injury and was forced to miss much of last weekend’s Divisional round
matchup against the Seattle Seahawks. However, Abraham told reporters,
including D. Orlando Ledbetter of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, that he won’t
be kept out of the NFC championship game due to injury.
“Oh yeah, you know me, you...
It may seem a bit like dodging a pair of difficult questions, but a Patriots, Falcons Super Bowl makes too much sense to ignore. The simple justification for such a prediction is that those teams are fielding the best quarterbacks this weekend, but really, there's much more to it than that.
While Tom Brady and Matt Ryan may be the best passers this weekend, their defenses will...
