The Falcons extended their 2012 record to 6-0, the best in franchise history record, with a third consecutive comeback win in the fourth quarter over the Oakland Raiders 23-20. This time the heroics rested on the leg of Matt Bryant for the second time this season. Bryant hit a 55-yard field goal to win the game with a second left on the clock. It marked the longest kick during his stint with the Falcons. Matt Ryan struggled early in this game, with three first half interceptions. He finished the game completing 24 of 37 passes for 249 yards with a touchdown. It snapped Ryan’s 9-game streak of having more touchdowns than interceptions in a game. On the ground, Michael Turner did not get much going finishing with 33 yards on 11 carries. Roddy White led receivers with 6 catches for 72 yards and Ryan’s only touchdown pass. Julio Jones (4 catches, 63 yards), Tony Gonzalez (4 catches, 42 yards), and Harry Douglas (5 catches, 37 yards) also contributed in the air. The Falcons offense strug...

Falcons ‘Matty Ice’ not who you think he is?

The Atlanta Falcons are off to a 6-0 start in 2012.  After squeezing out another last second win against the Oakland Raiders the Falcons will head into their bye week with the best record in the NFL.  Contrary to my preseason prediction that Atlanta wouldn’t even make the playoffs, the Falcons appear to be a team on a mission; possibly a team of destiny.Matt Ryan has had tremendous...

Ex-Eagles CB takes shot at Andy Reid

Former Eagles cornerback Asante Samuel, now with the Falcons, took to Twitter to take a shot at Philly head coach Andy Reid over the dismissal of the team's defensive coordinator.

Falcons TE Tony Gonzalez Just One TD Catch Away From #100 -  In his remarkable career, Gonzalez has caught ten or more touchdowns in the three seasons. He has 23 touchdowns with the Falcons and 76 with the Chiefs, and interestingly has caught as many touchdowns from Elvis Grbac as he has from Matt Ryan (23). Dallas is the only NFL team Gonzalez has not scored on. He’ll get another...

Falcons seek to improve run offense, defense

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. With his team remaining the final unbeaten of the 2012 NFL season, Falcons head coach Mike Smith took the podium on Monday and engaged in much hand-wringing over the state of his teams ability not only to run the ball but to defend the run. Yet if last year serves as any kind of historical example in the modern pass-happy NFL, it would be that defending the...

Douglas catches pass off opponent's helmet

Sometimes you need a little bit of luck in the National Football League and it appears that Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Harry Douglas has that luck. Watch as Douglas catches this Matt Ryan pass that deflects off the helmet of Oakland Raiders Joselio Hanson's helmet: (Courtesy of Cosby Sweaters)

Falcons are 6-0, but all is not well in Birdland

The bye week could not have come at a better time for the Atlanta Falcons. While they are the league's only undefeated team and are 6-0 to start the season for the first time in franchise history, they have some glaring issues -- and they know it. After letting middle linebacker and tackling machine Curtis Lofton leave in free agency, the Falcons have a leaky run defense...

Falcons savor NFL's last perfect record during bye

Then there was one. The Atlanta Falcons (6-0) are the NFL's last unbeaten team, giving them plenty to gloat about going into a bye week. Coach Mike Smith is giving his players the entire week off, saying it's a good time for everyone to ''disconnect.'' Even with a perfect record, Smith said Monday there's much for his team to work on, most of it evolving...

Abraham disrupts Raiders in Falcons' win

ATLANTA Tony Gonzalez has been in Willie Smith's shoes, and he's glad those days are over. No more watching game film to figure out how to slow down the NFL's active sack leader. No more John Abraham-induced nightmares off the edge. After all, Abraham, one of the league's premier sack specialists, is now Gonzalez's teammate on the undefeated Falcons. "...

Asante Samuel blasts Andy Reid

Never one to shy away from verbal jousting, Falcons cornerback Asante Samuel on Tuesday spiced up the subplot for the Falcons meeting at Philadelphia, his former team, on Oct. 21, with Twitter posts in response to the Eagles firing of defensive coordinator Juan Castillo. After the Eagles traded the four-time Pro-Bowler in the offseason for a seventh-round pick, Samuel took exception...

The Falcons are Outplayed, Outperformed, Move to 6-0

Your 2012 Atlanta Falcons have perfected something my Fantasy Football team has never done before: winning while playing poorly.  The Falcons needed a fumble recovery brought back to the two yard line, a defensive touchdown and three sacks by John Abraham to overcome an ineffective offense and arm-tackling defense in the 23-20 win over the Raiders. Ray Edwards finally making...

Asante Samuel Seems to Take Jab at Andy Reid in Wake of Juan Castillo's Firing

Asante Samuel must be having himself a good laugh over the current panic in Philadelphia. The Eagles shipped Samuel to the Falcons during the offseason for just a seventh-round pick, which the Philadelphia Inquirer's Jeff McLane said at the time was due to the cornerback falling out of favor with head coach Any Reid, who reportedly thought Samuel was in "...

Falcons 20, Raiders 17

ATLANTA – Matt Bryant's 55-yard field goal with one second to play capped another dramatic comeback in the Georgia Dome and kept the Falcons unbeaten heading into their bye week with a 23-20 victory over the Oakland Raiders. Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan, who was picked off three times in the first half, authored another game-winning drive, just two weeks after doing the...

Sunday Wrap Up

Falcons def. Raiders: The Falcons really have to give up this obsession with last second wins. While the Falcons should certainly be happy about being 6-0, the fact that they have barely won games against the Panthers, Redskins, and now the Raiders. This is the also the first week that Matt Ryan actually hurt the team for a decent section of the game. However, you have to give...
