Queen City Sports:
Last week I thought that three players were on the bubble who the Bills might regret cutting.
Of course that was before Buffalo released long time kicker Rian Lindell (which I predicted), and LB Nigel Bradham was cited for marijuana possession.
Continued drug busts and off the field issues can get even the best of players assigned to bubble watch but, since this is a first offense, I think Bradham is safe for now.
Others may not be so lucky.
My three buddle players were WR Marcus Easley, WR DeMarco Sampson and DE Jamie Blatnick. I am holding firm on Easley. He’s had a very good camp and again played well Friday night against the Vikings, catching 3 passes. In my view he should make the team but I suspect he won’t.
We are deep at wide receiver, and Easley has not moved past any of the others. Unless we have a major injury I don’t think Marcus can play himself onto the team. The Bills might try to sign him to the practice squad, and that won’t last very long as there are too many teams looking to upgrade their wide-out position. Expect to see him in a Jet, Steeler or maybe a Raider uniform (who NFL.com said before the pre-season started had the worst wide receiver corps in the league).
If Marrone accepts some risk and cuts veteran Brad Smith and his special teams’ skills, then Easley makes the team. I don’t think Marrone will accept the risk.
DeMarco Sampson continues to have a solid camp and still will get cut and claimed off of waivers by another team (again the Raiders seem to have a need).
However, my third projected (and regrettable) cut was Jamie Blatnick. I think he’s played himself onto the team. He’s been impressive all camp and played well against the Vikings. Recovering a fumble for a touchdown never hurts you chances.
Replacing Blatnick on my cut list is DT Torell Troup. I think the Bills will ultimately keep an additional offensive lineman as part of their final 53.
I am also guessing that they will keep Alan Branch whose NFL experience outweighs his mediocre camp. Troup is long on talent yet his camp has been solid if unspectacular. If Blatnick makes the team, Troup is the odd man out.
There are a dozen teams looking for a big body in the middle and Torell will get a second look with another team.
Remember, this all could change so stay tuned for an update after the Washington game.

Athletes across the world should take note of the way Rian Lindell thanked the Buffalo Bills fans for their support throughout his 10 -year career with the Bills. By no means is this ground-breaking, but the sentiment is as good as it gets and well worth the read. Lindell was released by the Bills earlier this week and inked a one-year deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Wednesday...

This past week, the Buffalo Bills released their most tenured player, kicker Rian Lindell. Lindell owns numerous bills records and just came up short in being the all time points-leader for the team. When you play for the same team for 10 years, saying goodbye can be a bitter pill to swallow. Always classy, though, Rian Lindell said his final goodbye to a fanbase that loved him and...

Heading into the 2013 preseason, place kicker was not a position of need for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Tampa had Conner Barth on the roster, a kicker who converted 28 of 33 field goals last season, going six of nine from 50 yards or more. Barth was perfect on extra point attempts as well, miking 39 of 39. The position became an area of serious concern when Barth ruptured his Achilles...

While Tampa Bay placekicker Derek Dimke has performed well as Connor Barth’s replacement since Barth was lost for the season with an Achilles injury the Bucs may not be comfortable heading into 2013 with a first-year kicker lined up to hit a potential game-winning last-second field goal this season.
