NFL Injury Report:
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers announced yesterday that place
kicker Connor Barth will miss the entire 2013 season after tearing his Achilles
tendon during a charity basketball game, according to Gregg Rosenthal of
To replace Barth, the Buccaneers signed former New York
Giants kicker Lawrence Tynes. Tampa Bay will place Barth on the
reserve/non-football injury list, a move which will end his season.
While the Bucs are disappointed to lose Barth, general
manager Mark Dominik is happy the team was able to plug in an experienced
kicker such as Tynes.
"We are disappointed to lose a productive player like
Connor but are very fortunate to be able to sign an experienced kicker at this
time of year," Bucs general manager Mark Dominik said, noting that Tynes
had "standing opportunities" to kick with other teams.
Tampa Bay viewed Barth as their long-term kicker, as they
signed him to a four-year contract last offseason. Still, if this injury was
going to happen this year, it’s better that it occurred sooner than later so
that a veteran option such as Tynes was still available to pick up.

Yesterday we kicked off a four-part series in which I embark on the fool’s errand of predicting the outcome of every regular-season game for all four NFC South teams.
