NFL Injury Report:
Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Doug Martin exited last
night’s second preseason contest against the New England Patriots with a head
injury. While there was immediate concern of a concussion, head coach Greg
Schiano told reporters – including Rick Stroud of The Tampa Bay Times – after
the game that he believes Martin is “going to be fine.”
"I think Doug is going to be fine,'' Bucs coach Greg
Schiano said. "He got hit in the head but he cleared really quickly. I saw
him at halftime and he was fine. He was going to play one more play.''
Martin was injured on a play where it looked like he was
kicked in the head while trying to block Patriots defensive end Chandler Jones.
He was removed from the game and taken to the locker room for further
After the game, Martin told reporters that he did not suffer
a concussion, an ailment which could keep him sidelined for an undetermined
amount of time. That paired with Schiano’s report make it seem like Martin and
Bucs avoided disaster.
Considering Martin is one of the top young players in the
NFL and is expecting to be one of the first selections made in fantasy drafts,
this story will continue to garner significant attention. While it’s good to be
initially cleared of concussion, sometimes the effects aren’t felt until days
later. It will be interesting to see how Tampa Bay handles their top rusher

This is where the preseason acts as sort of a trap. Josh Freeman has been the man in Tampa Bay for a few years now. As the incumbent starter it's natural that he doesn't play much in the preseason, and that his backup--Mike Glennon--does. Of course the more you play the more of a chance you are going to look good.

I'll be the first to admit that when I do a fantasy football draft, I'm always iffy about landing someone in the first round who is NOT a running back. Let's say that I have the 9th pick and Calvin Johnson falls to me, how do I pass on him, right? Right.Well, fortunately for me and my fantasy football game, I became fully aware that there is still plenty of talent...
