Bucs linebacker Quincy Black, who sustained a blow to the side of his head in todays win against the Chargers, was taken to a local hospital for observation but the team is optimistic he will recover.
I think hes going to be okay, coach Greg Schiano said after the game. We just have to work through some things.
Black dropped Chargers running back Ryan Mathews in the third quarter for a 2-yard loss, but in the process absorbed a blow from Mathews in the process that caused Black to drop to the turf.
Black showed movement in his extremities, something that allayed some concerns for Schiano. It was less than two years ago that Schiano was in a similar situation that did not end as favorably, when former Rutgers player Eric LeGrand was paralyzed in a game while Schiano was the teams coach.
I thought about it immediately, when a guy goes down and hes still, Schiano said. The good thing was Quincy immediately moved his right arm. So, that was a relief. Now its a matter of being real careful. And I think the medical people did a great job . . . As someone whos supported efforts to do that, it was a really great job by the medical people to take every precaution. Source: Tampa Bay Times Attached Thumbnails
