The New York Jets have yet to make a decision, at least publicly, on what they are looking to do with All-Pro cornerback Darrelle Revis. With the start of the new league year looming and still no definitive answer on what New York is going to do, Charlie Campbell of WalterFootball.com writes that the Buccaneers are a logical trading partner for the Jets. After the 49ers, Tampa Bay could be the next option that would be the most logical for a trading partner. The Buccaneers have enough picks and salary cap space to get a deal done for Revis. After fielding one of the worst pass defenses in NFL history in 2012, Tampa Bay is in dire need of cornerback help. The Bucs have had underwhelming drafts in the past four years, so it makes sense for the Bucs to trade for a proven commodity in Revis rather than trusting the front office to avoid drafting another Myron Lewis. I can certainly understand why many have already tied the Bucs as being a potential landing spot for Revis. However, due to his contract situation, the trade may not be a good one to make. There is no guarantee he will re-work a new deal with Tampa Bay. New York is reportedly said to want a first and second round pick in exchange for Revis’ services. You make that trade and Revis doesn’t sign a new deal, the Bucs are out two potential starters on the team. Not to mention the possibility of him holding out for a contract he wants. Any team would be fortunate to have Darelle Revis. It’s easy to tie the Bucs into the equation with their cap space and more so if they release Eric Wright and Quincy Black. But with the uncertainty of his future beyond 2013, Revis can all of a sudden become a rental. Is that worth it?
