TAMPA, Fla. Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach Greg Schiano said two-time Pro Bowl guard Carl Nicks is making progress with the infected blister on the players left foot. On Tuesday, Schiano said Nicks has responded well to treatment, though a timetable for a return is unknown. Nicks, who played only seven games last season before tearing the plantar plate in his left foot, appeared to be progressing well in his recovery before developing the blister during joint practices with the New England Patriots before the teams preseason game Aug. 16 at Gillette Stadium. Then last Thursday, it was revealed that he, along with kicker Lawrence Tynes (ingrown toenail on right foot) developed MRSA infections. The Bucs had plans to cleanse their facility twice to control the outbreak of the staph infections. Tynes underwent toe surgery last week to remove the infection, but he has not returned to One Buc Place. Nicks has received treatment from the team. "Responding well," Schiano said of Nicks. "Carl, I know more about since he is here. Carl is healing up. Timeline, I don't know. I can't put a definite date on that, but he is healing, and he is recovering. With Lawrence, he's not in town. But everything that can be done is being done to make sure that everybody recovers." You can follow Andrew Astleford on Twitter @aastleford or email him at aastleford@gmail.com.
