The Pewter Plank:
The Buccaneers came to terms this morning with third round draft pick Roy Miller, a defensive tackle from the University of Texas.
According to Profootballtalk.com, Miller’s contract included a $770,000 signing bonus as well as a base value worth $2.52 million, which includes minimum base salaries of $310,000, $395,000, $480,000 and $565,000. They also reported that the contract could be boosted significantly by a fourth year escalator clause.
In my guestimation, Miller has a chance to start next season, and that escalator clause might be intended to motivate a young man to perform at a max level.
Also of note, the Buccaneers announced that they have released QB Brian Griese. No fan fare accompanied his release just a simple one sentence notification from the front office of the Buccaneers. Griese had little chance to make the roster and it has been assumed for some time now that his release was imminent.
