Tampa Bay made enough plays to lose Sunday’s game against Carolina. But as this teams has shown time and time again, they will not stop until the final whistle blows. The Bucs would finally gets things together at the end of regulation to force overtime and pull out the victory over the Panthers 27-21. With a 10-0 lead in the first quarter, Bucs quarterback Josh Freeman would throw an interception to Carolina’s Captain Munnerlyn. He would then return it 74 yards for a touchdown, cutting the Bucs lead to 10-7. The Panthers would get a quick touchdown in the second quarter to take the lead 14-10 after running back Jonathan Stewart punched it in from one yard out. That touchdown was set up by a pass interference call on rookie safety Mark Barron on a 3rd and 10. In the fourth quarter, the Panthers were holding on to a four point lead when the Bucs were one yard away from taking the lead. Runningback Doug Martin fumbled after what appeared to be a touchdown as he crossed the goal line. However, Carolina was awarded the ball in the endzone and seven plays later, quarterback Cam Newton threw a 29 yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Brandon LaFell to extend the Panthers’ lead, 21-10. After the teams exchanged possessions, the Bucs were down 21-13 with 1:02 left in regulation. Josh Freeman and the Bucs would drive down the field and score a touchdown when Vincent Jackson caught a Freeman pass that was rifled in between three defenders. They would then attempt and convert the two-point try to tie it 21-21. In overtime, the Buccaneers won the toss and elected to receive the ball. Doug Martin would have 48 rushing yards on the drive to help get inside Carolina’s red zone. The 80-yard drive would be capped off by a 15-yard touchdown pass from Freeman to tight end Dallas Clark to give the Bucs the win. NOTES Doug Martin finished with 138 yards on 24 carries. He now has 1,000 yards on the season. Josh Freeman finished 25/46 for 248 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions. Freeman’s passer rating was a 73.5, first time under 100 since week six. Vincent Jackson caught six passes for 94 yards, one touchdown, and the two-point conversion that sent it into overtime. Tampa Bay’s defense played well as a unit, getting two sacks (Bowers, Bennett), three quarterback hits, and 10 tackles for loss.
