The Bay Cave:
The Buccaneers continue their busy offseason, even though they are not signing cornerbacks. Today they announced the release of two veteran per the NFL transaction logs. Running back DJ Ware and quarterback Dan Orlovsky were released, the Orlovsky one being a bit of a surprise. Head coach Greg Schiano wanted competition for quarterback Josh Freeman but apparently Orlovsky was not what he was looking for. The only other quarterback on the roster is Adam Weber. The Bucs were tied to Matt Cassel and Carson Palmer recently but they obviously went elsewhere. Current available free agents at the position are names like Charlie Batch, Brady Quinn, and Matt Leinart amongst others. It’s doubtful the Bucs may go after any on the list. Only thing left to wonder is if the Buccaneers (Schiano to be exact) will be targeting a quarterback in the draft to mold into their own in case Josh Freeman does not go as hoped in 2013. The post Bucs release Dan Orlovsky and DJ Ware appeared first on The Bay Cave.

Dan Orlovsky was cut by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Thursday. Orlovsky appeared in one game during the 2012 season.
While Orlovsky has a 6-fo0t-5, 230 pound frame, he has never found success in the NFL. In 12 career starts he has just two wins while serving as the backup on primarily bad teams.
By releasing Orlovsky the Buccaneers will save $1.5 million against the cap. The cut also...
According to ProFootballTalk.com, even though the Redskins and cornerback Antoine Winfield have a “mutual interest” in one another, the Vikings are trying to re-sign him.
The Vikings couldn’t afford to pay Winfield what he was originally scheduled to make in 2013, so they had to release him. But they do realize they need his veteran presence.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Josh Freeman is entering the final year of his current contract. That means there is a greater sense of urgency for Freeman to finally prove that he is capable of being a franchise quarterback in the NFL. This is always the case for any player entering the last year of his contract. Playing well means more money when the time comes to sign a new contract...
TMZ is always looking for a quote, so it should be no surprise that a reporter was attempting to ask Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson questions as he was walking down the street. Specifically questions about the first openly gay NFL player. But the bigger story here is what happened as he was recording Peterson’s answer. Try not to laugh.
Brett Favre's 1991 NFL Draft photo, which is full of jorts, is probably the greatest photo of all time.
Is it a possibility that the Buccaneers and general manager Mark Dominik pushed away free agent cornerbacks? It sure seems that way. 98.7 The Fan’s Justin “The Commish” Pawlowski asked Panthers cornerback Captain Munnerlyn about the interest Tampa Bay showed him before he signed back with Carolina. His answer was interesting: I was waiting on Tampa too. They have a lot of...
Antoine Winfield remains unsigned after the Redskins chose to sign another veteran cornerback, but will that preclude them continuing their pursuit of Winfield?
The NFL takes it’s anti-tampering policy very serious. So serious that Greg Schiano fears to mention Darrelle Revis by his name to make sure he doesn’t get a letter from the league. Unfortunately, the Bucs may have violated the policy anyhow. CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora was on 98.7 The Fan with Justin “The Commish” Pawloski when La Canfora revealed something very interesting...

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers released their preseason schedule Thursday.
The Bucs open at home against the defending Super Bowl champion Baltimore Ravens in Week 1 (Aug. 8-11) before traveling to the New England Patriots in Week 2 (Aug. 16, 8 p.m. ET).
