In an effort to improve on punt and kickoff returns, the Bucs officially announced today the signing of Temple running back/return specialist Matt Brown. The following is from the Buccaneers’ blog: Brown got the most out of his 5-5, 165-pound frame at Temple, both on offense and in the kick return game.  As a senior, he was named the Big East Special Teams Player of the Year after registering 790 yards and a touchdown on 31 kickoff returns and 241 yards on 17 punt returns.  Brown also ranked third on the Owls’ squad with 372 yards and four touchdowns on 60 carries out of the backfield.  In all, he was good for 143.4 all-purpose yards per game last fall, the top mark in the conference. The signing may suggest the team is not 100% sold on running back Michael Smith — who was drafted last season for his return capabilities. Smith spent the majority of last season inactive. The signing also gives the Bucs added depth at the position. But don’t look for Brown to have a big offensive role if in fact he does make it on the roster.
