Remember how Derrick Brooks could tackle? That was awesome.

I mean, isn’t that where we are now?

I know, I haven’t been keeping up with my regular updates. Did you know that when you are studying for a master’s you have to do a lot of work? I didn’t either. But I do now!

Anyway, the good news is that in my last wrap-up post following the Bucs-Saints game, I prepared all you Bucs chicks for the fact that the rest of the season might be a disaster. And, in fact, I was on to something.

For here we sit, at 4-7, and really no game seems winnable. Gerald McCoy is out for the season, Josh Freeman may be out for the week, Brian Price is still injured, Mike Williams has never quite shown up, LeGarrette Blount just doesn’t seem to have the ball in his hands enough–whether Greg Olson isn’t designing plays for him, or whether Blount is fumbling the balls he is given–and the defense seems allergic to tackling. I hate when (insert opposing team here) decides to run the ball, because you know there is going to be at least a 10-yard pickup. And the YAC, well, how about 30 yards, 50 yard, 200,000 yards. (Ok, the last one was a slight exaggeration, but if a field spanned 200,000 yards, I have no doubt but that the opposing player could make it the entire way without being tackled.)

So that brings us to tomorrow’s game against the Panthers. Certainly this one seemed winnable before the season. But that was before Cam Newton showed that he was Cam Newton. (Of course, no one knows like a Bucs fan that young star QBs are not always consistent year after year, so watch yourself next year, Cam. No shooting guns at firing ranges, mmmkay?)

Now the Panthers look particularly potent, especially against a Bucs team that looks entirely impotent. The Panthers are 9th in the league in passing yards and 6th in the league in rushing yards. The Bucs are 28th in the league in opposing passing yards and 30th in the league in opposing rushing yards.

So what I’m saying here is, Bucs fans shouldn’t be too hopeful here. I mean, don’t lose the faith entirely, but maybe don’t expect too much.
