Slowly but surely it seems reports are starting to agree that a deal between the Buccaneers and the Jets for Darrelle Revis will happen during the owners meetings next week. The initial report claiming it will happen also stated a deal was already in place. Friday, an article published in the New York Daily News apparently has a price tag on that said deal after the amount has been widely speculated. One source said Thursday that he thinks the Jets could trade Revis at the meetings and that the Bucs are the team that is going to make the deal — simply because Tampa Bay is the only team that has displayed a willingness to pay Revis close to the $16 million a year he wants and also work with the Jets to provide market-value compensation in a trade. With the way other cornerbacks have been paid this week during free agency (averaging around $5 million/year contracts), is the above dollar amount too much for a player coming off an ACL injury? Whether it’s Revis or not? There is much debate about that amount and rightfully so. If any team gives $16 million a year to one single player, they better figure out how to fit draft picks and other re-signings into the salary cap. Or they will find themselves in salary cap hell. Here’s hoping Mark Dominik works this alleged contract properly. The post Bucs “willing” to pay Darrelle Revis $16 million? appeared first on The Bay Cave.
