Free Safety Jairus Byrd is arguably the best defender on the Buffalo Bills. On his way to becoming a free agent, the Bills gave Byrd the franchise tag for a value of $6.916 million. That is not enough for Byrd.According to Tim Graham of The Buffalo News, the Bills are not expecting Byrd for sometime, after he was the only player to not show up for the voluntary workouts on Monday.General manager Buddy Nix admits he hasn’t given it much thought, but is careful to explain his reasoning.“There’s been some contact, and we’re making some effort to try to get a long-term deal done with Jairus,” Bills General Manager Buddy Nix said at the team’s annual pre-draft luncheon. “But — and I don’t mean this in a bad way — I haven’t given it much thought.“I don’t mean that we’re not interested because we certainly need him, and eventually he’ll probably be here. But it’s nothing we can do except try to get a contract done, and if it doesn’t work, then the ball’s in his court. He comes when, basically, he gets ready. The Bills need to do what it takes to get Byrd to sign in time for training camp if not before. After losing Andy Levitre to the Titans this offseason and having Kevin Kolb sitting a top of the quarterback depth chart, fans can’t be too happy with the front office.Need NFL Tickets?
