Mitchell will be watching another season from the sidelines.
For the second straight season, Kawika Mitchell is done early. Mitchell injured his foot on Wednesday at practice, but it’s unclear what exactly the injury was at this point. Considering he’s been placed on IR, it’s safe to assume the injury was at least a Lis Franc sprain or worse.
In his place, the Bills have signed former Miami Dolphins linebacker Akin Ayodele. The Bills are giving the 3-4 a shot this year, and Ayodele is a guy who has experience in the system. He’s not an upgrade, but he’s probably not much of a downgrade either.
Mitchell’s time in Buffalo might be up. He’s now played a total of five games in the past two seasons and is already 30 years old. A youth movement is coming in Buffalo sooner rather than later, so it’s likely Mitchell won’t even be around to see it begin.
The Bills open up their 2010 season against Ayodele’s former team and AFC East rival Miami Dolphins, so the Chan Gailey era was unlikely to get off to a great start, anyway.
