From the words of Plaxico Burress, it doesn’t sound like he was ever serious about resigning with the Giants after all, which is good for the Jets who went after and got the former Super Bowl WR.

To hear Plaxico Burress’ version, the Giants were never really an option. His meeting with ownership and team officials was just a long kiss goodbye, a nostalgic sit-down with familiar people. Never mind that the Jets offered more guaranteed money or others involved were under the impression they were negotiating a contract, Burress said Wednesday his goal was “closure.” He laughed with Jerry Reese, John Mara and his good buddy, Steve Tisch. “Personally, I think I just needed a fresh start,” Burress said. “If I wanted to go somewhere and make money, I could have went a couple other places and got a two- or three-year deal, different things like that. But I just wanted an opportunity to go somewhere fresh and have an opportunity to play for a great organization and a great coach in Rex (Ryan) and a great team. “And I feel like I’m in the right place.” Burress said he harbors no ill will toward the Giants, acknowledging that the organization had nothing to do with shooting himself in the thigh and stalling his career. “There’s no anger over there toward anybody (with the Giants),” Burress said. “Everything that happened to me I brought it on myself.” On meeting with the Giants, Burress said: “Everything went well. It was a great meeting. Business is business and now I’m here.
