In the aftermath of the Paterno scandal Penn State badly needs to find a leader with integrity.  It should come as no surprise that Jim Caldwell, a one-time Penn State assistant, is on the minds of Nittany Lion fans:

Caldwell was an assistant for Paterno from 1986-1992, and the two coaches remain close. Even this week, as the disgrace in Happy Valley played out, Caldwell spoke glowingly of Paterno and his legacy, while at the same time criticizing the coaching legend for putting the football program before the interests of the victims in this case. That strikes me as a reasonable tone for this situation, because Paterno has become as polarizing as, if not more so than, Michael Vick was a few years ago. Loving the man and his accomplishments, but damning him for his inaction is a consistent message that probably won't rile either side of the aisle too much. At the same time, Caldwell got the chance to start re-associating his name and face with Penn State at a time when the program really can't hold up anyone from the inside as a model for the institution.
