Calvin Johnson signs a major extension, worth $60 million in guaranteed money.
The Detroit Lions announced today that they have signed their star WR, Calvin Johnson, to a seven-year extension deal. The contract is worth $132 million and includes $60 million guaranteed. This is the richest deal given to a wide receiver, surpassing the $120 million dollar deal that Larry Fitzgerald signed with the Cardinals last year.
This was the final season of the contract Johnson signed, after being the number 2 pick in the 2007 draft.
Does Calvin deserve this deal?? Absolutely. Besides Matt Stafford, Calvin Johnson is the face of the Detroit Lions. Those two made some major plays this season and it’s likely to keep going as the team moves forward. The Lions gave a city, that’s been struggling, hope for something great. You can’t ask for anything better than that.
I’m happy for Calvin Johnson. If anyone in the league deserves such a sweet deal, it’s definitely that guy. Congrats CJ!

The Lions made it quite clear that their top priority this offseason was to sign Calvin Johnson to an extension. It appears they have accomplished just that. The Lions have bestowed the biggest contract extension in NFL history on Calvin Johnson to the tune of seven years worth $132 million with roughly $60 million in supposedly-guaranteed-but-maybe-not money. He’s probably worth it on account of being awesome. You could reasonably argue that he should have gotten even more given that he’s worth the equivalent of roughly eight Pierre...
