Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton was named Associated Press Offensive Rookie of the Year.

Newton became the first quarterback in NFL history to pass for 4,000 yards and rush for 500 yards in a season.

"I want to thank the man upstairs," Newton said.

He set a rookie record with 4,051 passing yards, and he rushed for 706 yards while breaking the NFL record for most rushing touchdowns (14) in a season by a quarterback.
