Last season, if you paid any attention to the NFL, you probably heard of the Rookie sensation and number one overall pick, Cam Newton. Newton had an impressive rookie season that ranked as one of the best of all-time in terms of Rookie signal callers. His numbers were outstanding, throwing for 4,051 and 21 touchdowns, as well as breaking the all-time rushing touchdowns by a Quarterback record with 14 as he broke other rookie records on his way.

Sure, he was impressive, but where did he rank in the eyes of his peers?
Newton ranked 40th in this years NFL’s Top 100 countdown. I understand he’s broke records, and he is a fun guy to watch on the field, but being ranked the 40th best in the game today is a hard pill for me to swallow. Take this into account, last years list didn’t include the Super Bowl MVP, Eli Manning. This season, the series (thusfar) hasn’t included Matt Ryan in it’s list, and just last week Peyton Manning, who ranked second last year before missing the season with a neck injury, ranked 50th on this very list.
We’ve yet to see what Peyton Manning can do in a game since missing all of last year, but do these players really think that Cam Newton is better than him? Excuse me while I shake my head in disagreement.
I am in no way, shape or form bashing Newton as I think he is an outstanding football player and he is going to be for years to come, but the 40th best player in the league right now? Not in my eyes..
