From suits to sportswear to underwear, athletes across the sports spectrum have developed clothing collections. Cam Newton is the latest sportsman to foray into world of fashion design. The Caroline Panthers QB has been recognized for having a keen eye for style. Most recently he covered the September issue of GQ magazine and he’s quickly joining the ranks of the NFL’s best-dressed. In his latest fashion endeavor, Newton has partnered with Charlotte-based Belk stores to launch an exclusive line of men’s apparel. Dubbed “MADE Cam Newton,” the collection is part of Belk’s efforts to “satisfy the modern Southern lifestyle of our customers.”
“Professional sports play an increasingly important role in fashion, and as a fashion retailer, Belk is excited to be at the forefront of the trend through this brand,” says Kathryn Bufano, president and merchandising officer for Belk. “Cam Newton personifies our company’s dedication to family, community and the Southern lifestyle, and therefore is a perfect complement to Belk’s modern Southern fashions.”
Newton’s men’s clothing collection will offer items that are both versatile and fashion-forward, ranging from suits to sportswear. Belk also told WWD “the collection can be dressed up or worn for a more casual look, and that items are set at better, entry-level prices including $28 T-shirts, $120 blazers, khakis for $60, and suits around $200.”
MADE Cam Newton will be available in 133 Belk stores across the southeast and on Belk.com beginning in Spring 2013. The collection will expand to include accessories and footwear, due out in Fall 2013.
“As a man born and raised in the south, I have always known Belk as a benchmark for quality apparel and a destination for clothing that is both functional and stylish. Developing a collection for Belk was a natural fit from the beginning, and we designed the MADE collection with an authentic approach,” said Newton. “I’m happy to bring my vision to a clothing line that provides comfortable, on-trend clothing to men and that reflects my personal style.”
