The roster breakdown continues with a look at running backs. The Bengals hold their first two training camp practices at Georgetown College on July 29. The series began with quarterbacks on Thursday and we resume on Monday with wide receivers/tight ends.
Position breakdown
Kept last year: 5 (4 HB/1 FB). At the end of the season it was six with 4 HB and 2 FB
Currently on roster: 7
Number usually kept: With the exception of last year, the trend has usually been five (3 HB/2 FB).
Locks to make it (how acquired): Cedric Benson (free agent ’08), Bernard Scott (sixth round ’09).
Extremely good odds* (how acquired): Brian Leonard (trade with St. Louis ’09), Fui Vakapuna (seventh round (’09). *By extremely good odds I mean they are virtually certain to make the roster. Is it a near 100 percent certainty? No. It’s more in the 90 percent range meaning there is still a little bit of wiggle room.
