Found July 26, 2012 on Gridiron Grit:
The Cleveland Browns face an uphill battle in one of the most difficult divisions in the NFL.  The Cincinnati Bengals, Baltimore Ravens and Pittsburgh Steelers all made the playoffs in 2011 and have their sights set on bigger and better things this season. Nevertheless, Cleveland addressed its needs very will in April with the additions of running back Trent Richardson and quarterback Brandon Weeden in the first round (both of whom I projected would go to Cleveland). While Kendall Wright went to the Tennessee Titans, another former star receiver at Baylor landed in Cleveland in the second round of the 2012 NFL Supplemental Draft. His name is Josh Gordon and he has a pretty checkered off-the-filed history. During his college career, he failed three drug tests.  Before getting kicked out of school at Baylor he had failed two drug tests and the other occured during his short stint at Utah.  What’s worse—shortly after getting selected by the Browns, Gordon claimed he hadn’t failed a dru...

Browns are up for sale, won’t be leaving Cleveland

Getty Images According to Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain-Dealer, Browns president Mike Holmgren admitted that owner Randy Lerner is giving up his majority ownership of the team. “Cleveland browns aren’t going anywhere. They’re going to stay,” said Holmgren, per Cabot. Lerner is expected to sell the Browns to Tennessee businessman Jimmy Haslam, who currently has...

Browns' Gordon admits to failing drug tests

BEREA -- Josh Gordon was the subject of constant attention Wednesday at his first Cleveland Browns practice. After every play, a coach wanted to tell Gordon something. Just making sure I do everything the right way, Gordon said. That could be his mantra since being selected in the second round of the NFL Supplemental Draft a couple weeks ago. Because Gordon has to prove a lot to...

The Cleveland Browns ready to repeat as a Top 10 defense

As the Cleveland Browns start training camp,I think back to last season and the 4-12 record that the Browns were able to put together. Yes it was a long, losing, miserable, boring year. The Cleveland Browns Backers parties that I attended in Arlington, TX dwindled down week after week. The enthusiasm when the Browns season started eventually turned sour by week 10 when they lost...

With training camp opening this coming week, weve taken a position-by-position analysis of the current roster as the team heads to camp. This is the last part as we take a look at the specialists. Weeden leads Browns on field to start camp

BEREA, Ohio (AP) -- Quarterback Brandon Weeden led Cleveland Browns rookies and a few veterans onto the practice field for the first time since officially signing. The highly touted quarterback, picked No. 22 out of Oklahoma State, joined No. 3 overall pick Trent Richardson, the former star running back at Alabama. Pat Shurmur opened his second season as coach in Cleveland on Wednesday...

Holmgren addresses the media regarding sale

BEREA -- Browns president Mike Holmgren admitted Friday his future is unknown once the Cleveland Browns are sold to Jimmy Haslam. My future is bright, Holmgren said before the Browns practiced. That will be answered down the road. You control the things you can control and do the best you can. Translation: He might figure his time in Cleveland is tenuous with the sale. Holmgren has...

Browns owner talking with possible investor

Cleveland Browns owner Randy Lerner said Friday he is discussing a possible investment in the team by truck-stop magnate Jimmy Haslam. ''In connection with current rumors and press inquiries, I can report that I've been approached by Mr. Jimmy Haslam, who is interested in making an investment in the Cleveland Browns. We are currently in negotiations and both sides have...

Could Joe Banner be Involved in Browns Acquisition?

Howard Eskin of NBC 10 in Philadelphia (by way of Pro Football Talk) is reporting that Joe Banner will likely be part of the Haslam group that is negotiating with Randy Lerner to buy the Browns. Banner was most recently the president of the Philadelphia Eagles. He was replaced in the role, but remained a “strategic advisor” to Eagles’ owner Jeffrey Lurie. Banner spoke to Pro...

So Jimmy Haslam Could Invest in the Browns?

Corporate photo of Jimmy Haslam from Steelers.com First of all, let’s just get all the freak outs out of the way. Change is scary. Uncertainty! Screaming! Crying? Now that that’s out of the way, let’s get down to business, bullet point style. Jimmy Haslam is the 55 year-old CEO of Pilot Travel Centers. He is the son of an 81-year-old Jim Haslam II. Randy Lerner’s statement...

Video: CFL player celebrates early in 117-yard return

I believe it is important to note that Canadian Football League player Chris Williams has been apart of two NFL organizations. They are the Miami Dolphins and the Cleveland Browns. I think that is pertinent information before viewing this. The missed field goal return happens quite often, and Hamilton Tiger-Cats receiver obviously though he had [...]

Progress However Slow? Spawn of Modell-Conspirator in “private negotiations” over sale of Browns to Top Republican Fundraiser/Global Warming Profiteer/Avowed “1,000% Steelers Fan”

Either Plato is being put to the ultimate test here, or there’s something worse than a Modell-Conspirator. Either way, now would be just about the time for an oilman to join the ranks of Cleveland sports ownership. Additionally, James Haslam III (“Jimmy”), with whom Randy Lerner is currently in private negotiations regarding an “investment” in the Browns currently owns...
