Even though Phil Emery fired head coach Lovie Smith at the end of the 2012 season, he did everything possible to keep the defensive coaching staff in place. He lobbied hard to keep defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli on the staff because he was an integral part of the Bears' resurgence after the tough 2009 season.
Marinelli was one of the best defensive line coaches in...
Jay Cutler is aware quarterbacks are cashing in around the NFL. He also realizes he'll have to wait for his big payday.
Chicago general manager Phil Emery all but ruled out extensions this season for players with expiring contracts, and Cutler insists he's OK with that.
The same goes for kicker Robbie Gould and cornerback Tim Jennings, who are part of a long list of Bears...
The Chicago Bears announced that DT Sedrick Ellis did not report to the team’s training camp and has informed them that he intends to retire from the NFL.
Ellis, 28, signed a one-year contract worth $1 million and included $500,000 guaranteed in June. The former seventh-overall pick of the 2008 draft has been a huge bust over the course of his career with the Saints.
The Chicago Bears say defensive tackle Sedrick Ellis has decided to retire rather than report to training camp.
The Bears announced the move on Thursday. They are scheduled to begin practicing on Friday, but Ellis won't be there.
Taken with the seventh overall pick by New Orleans in 2008, he played five seasons with the Saints before signing a one-year deal with Chicago on...
Marc Trestman is off to a fast start with the Chicago Bears.
The new coach was a blur during the first training camp practice on Friday, trailing players and urging the offense to hurry up when it was slow to snap the ball.
If things seemed a bit chaotic, well, that's how he wants it.
''What we're trying to do essentially is slow everything down on Sunday and this...

Defensive tackle Sedrick Ellis did not show up to training camp and announced his intention to retire today. Bears brass wasted no time replacing him by signing six-year veteran Jamaal Anderson.
This year, I'm going to try my best to provide some decent coverage of football, with an obvious focus on the Bears. To that end, I thought it'd be a nice idea to talk about the new Bears this year and how they might fit in. I'll be the first to admit that I'm not the premiere source of football analysis, but I'll try my best to make intelligent, rational arguments...
Defensive end Jamaal Anderson, formerly of the Cincinnati Bengals, has inked a deal with the Chicago Bears and will fill the void in the training camp roster that was created when defensive tackle Sedrick Ellis abruptly retired from the National Football League.
Anderson was originally drafted by the Atlanta Falcons in 2007 and has played in 77 games, accumulating a meager 7.5 total...
(Eds: Updates with quotes, details. With AP Photos.) By ANDREW SELIGMAN AP Sports Writer The most interesting person on the Chicago Bears' roster?
''I'm probably the most interesting person on the team,'' new tight end Martellus Bennett said.
And who can argue?
After all, this is a player who discussed his lactose intolerance at his introductory...
Returning to work with Jay Cutler was a blessing for Brandon Marshall in 2012. He was the only wide receiver last year to finish top-4 in receptions, yards, and touchdowns. CBS currently has Marshall ranked as the No. 4 wide-out, projecting his draft value in the beginning of the third round. I'm going to tell you why he's more valuable than this.

The Oakland Raiders continue to add castoffs. Andre Gurode is the latest player to sign a contract with the Raiders.
Gurode, 34, has not appeared in an NFL game since 2011. He spent 2012 with the Chicago Bears but they opted to cut him loose in December.
From 2006-2010 Gurode was a Pro-Bowl center for the Dallas Cowboys. He has not approached that level since...
