TEMPE, Ariz. -- Guard Adam Snyder, who started 14 games for the Cardinals last season after signing as a free agent, was released on Monday. The team also cut guard Jeremiah Warren. The team apparently deemed them expendable after drafting two guards: first-round pick Jonathan Cooper out of North Carolina and fourth-rounder Earl Watford out of James Madison. Snyder was due to make 4 million this season, but the Cardinals won't save anything by cutting him. The Cardinals could designate Snyder's release as a June 1 cut, meaning that after carrying his 4 million remaining hit on the salary cap through June 1, they could spread it over two seasons, with 1 million in 2013 and 3 million in 2014. If they do not, they must carry the entire hit this season. Snyder, who started for San Francisco before joining the Cardinals as a free agent, received a 5 million bonus when he signed a five-year deal in 2012. The Cardinals also announced the signing of 16 rookie free agents. The breakdown includes five wide receivers, three cornerbacks, three linebackers, two safeties, two offensive tackles and one nose tackle. The most recognizable name is 6-foot-4 Arizona wide receiver Dan Buckner, who caught 103 passes in two seasons with the Wildcats. The group also includes a pair of safeties from Oklahoma, Tony Jefferson and Javon Harris. Jefferson was a second-team who had 119 tackles last year and was projected by many as a mid-round draft pick. Harris had six interceptions last year. Third-round draft pick Tyrann Mathieu is being projected as a safety, but the Cardinals have a need at the position after cutting both of last season's starting safeties. The remainder of the free agents are: Wide receivers Jaron Brown of Clemson, Javone Lawson of Louisiana-Lafayette, Michael Rios of Marist and Tyler Shaw of Northwest Missouri State. Linebackers Kenny Demens of Michigan, Dan Giordano of Cincinnati and Korey Jones of Wyoming. Cornerbacks Josh Hill of California, Prentiss Waggner of Tennessee and Ronnie Yell of San Jose State. Tackles Joe Carioglio of Colorado State and Jamaal Johnson-Webb of Alabama A&M. Nose tackle Patric Scott of Florida A&M.
