Cardinals quarterback Kevin Kolb, who suffered bruised muscles in the rib area Sunday, is expected to play against the Chiefs Friday night in a backup role. The plan all along had been for John Skelton to start at quarterback against the Chiefs. Kolb's availability was in question after he suffered the injury on the sixth offensive play of the game against the Saints. Kolb said earlier this week that he was eager to play to try and redeem himself from a poor, abbreviated performance.

Kevin Kolb’s preseason quarterback rating is 0.0

AP Photo The good news for quarterback Kevin Kolb and the Arizona Cardinals is that he finished the game without getting injured.  The bad news is that he still doesn’t look like a franchise quarterback. So far this preseason Kolb has only complete 2 of 9 passes for 25 yards with no touchdowns and one interception.  That gives him a quarterback rating of 0.0. The good news for...

Kurt Warner: Kolb will start, but needs to learn Whisenhunt’s offense

Former Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner had three good seasons playing in Ken Whisenhunt’s offense in Arizona, and he says Kevin Kolb can have plenty of good seasons playing in that offense, too. It’s just that Kolb has to learn the offense first. Warner said on NFL Network that Kolb is expected to win the starting job in [...]

Few signs of progress for Cards, quarterbacks

Coach Ken Whisenhunt said before the Cardinals' second preseason game Friday night in Kansas City that he wanted to see progress. Well, Kevin Kolb didn't get hurt. Does that qualify as progress? It was tough to find other signs. Despite the return of safety Adrian Wilson and defensive tackle Darnell Dockett to the lineup, the Cardinals defense tackled poorly for a second...

Cardinals Will Start QB Kevin Kolb Vs Raiders

It took about 45 seconds for Kevin Kolb's preseason to barrel off the rails, but the Arizona Cardinals haven't given up on the man previously hailed as their franchise quarterback. Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt confirmed to KGME-AM on Saturday that Kolb will start in the team's third preseason game, Friday against the Oakland Raiders. The Cardinals planned all along...

NFL Preseason: Kansas City Chiefs Take Down Cardinals

Kevin Kolb is making this quarterback situation in Arizona very easy to resolve. The way he has played in the first two preseason games for the Arizona Cardinals, it's John Skelton's job to lose. Even Ryan Lindley could move into the no. 2 quarterback spot on the depth chart by the time the season is over. Kolb went 1-for-5 for 21 yards to make his total preseason numbers...

Arizona Cardinals 2013 Franchise Tag Candidates

S Kerry Rhodes I only list Rhodes because the Cardinals don’t have another even remotely good candidate for the tag. Safeties have been franchised 4 times in the last 2 seasons because of how cheap the safety franchise tag is (just 6.2 million in 2012). However, Rhodes isn’t the level of Michael Huff, Tyvon Branch, Dashon Goldson, and Michael Griffin, all of whom have been franchised...

How good can the Cardinals defense be?

Every player in the Cardinals locker room knows Ray Hortons pedigree. They know he spent seven seasons under famed Pittsburgh Steelers defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau mastering one of the NFLs most successful and most enduring schemes. But as Horton installed a similarly modeled defense last season in his first year as the Cards coordinator, he refrained from wearing that badge...

Cardinals Coach Ken Whisenhunt Positive RB's Are Ready For Season

Arizona Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt is hopeful both running backs Ryan Williams and Beanie Wells will be able to participate in preseason games within the next two weeks. “I’ve been encouraged with the amount of work they’ve been doing and they are very close,” Whisenhunt told “NFL AM” on Thursday. “Ryan has been practicing for us, I think that he’ll play very soon...

DAY 9 PART II: Leach keeping QB job open

PULLMAN--WSU responded from their most sluggish practice of fall camp with an energetic two-hour session on Friday. And Mike Leach isn't ready to end the starting QB question. Jeff Tuel and Connor Halliday split reps with the first-team offense, each showing off respective strengths on a day owned by the O. The day even featured one of the quarterbacks getting into a skirmish...

Cardinals QB's Kevin Kolb, John Skelton Both Underwhelming Vs Chiefs

Speaking of first-round quarterbacks, it feels as though the Arizona Cardinals will need to use a pick on one in 2013. It was admirable that Kevin Kolb came back from his rib contusion vs. the New Orleans Saints to take the field vs. the Kansas City Chiefs. Unfortunately for him, he had another shaky game (1-for-5, 21 yards), and John Skelton wasn't much better (3-for-6, INT...

Cardinals vs. Chiefs

There generally aren’t many things you can learn from the first NFL exhibition game of the year. But in Kansas City, there are three questions I want answered Friday night when the Chiefs host the Arizona Cardinals at Arrowhead Stadium.

Cougs OL taking big loss?

MIKE LEACH DOESN’T discuss or give out information on injuries. But WSU looks to have suffered a fall camp blow on the offensive line. Two sources close to the situation tell CF.C that an o-tackle listed as a starter on the most recent depth chart looks to be lost for the season.

Out of Bounds: Cardinals vs. Chiefs Review

With their first preseason game under their belts, the Kansas City Chiefs outlasted the Arizona Cardinals 27-17, so who stood out and what does this win mean?
