NFL Injury Report:
Cardinals seventh overall draft pick Jonathan Cooper was placed on
season-ending Injured Reserve, according to NFL.com's Dan Hanzus. Cooper
suffered a broken leg last week during the Cardinals third preseason game. It
was originally reported that he was hoping to return this season following the
injury. However, any chance of that happening was just squashed with his move
to Injured Reserve. The Cardinals will now be forced to look elsewhere for
offensive line help.
drafted with the seventh overall draft pick in the 2013 NFL Draft. His size and
athleticism was expected to help solidify a shaky Arizona offensive line. With
the offseason arrival of head coach Bruce Arians and new starting quarterback
Carson Palmer, the Cardinals have an immediate need for healthy offensive lineman
capable of contributing. It is unknown whether they will look within the
organization or look for options around the league. With roster cuts due for
the entire NFL this week, there should be some intriguing options on the waiver
injury comes as a huge blow to an organization that hopes to compete in the
rugged NFC West this season. Taking an offensive guard in the top-10 is already
a tough sell to the fans. Cooper’s inability to make it to the regular season
healthy will surely be even more frustrating for a franchise that has struggled
to compete since quarterback Kurt Warner’s retirement.
