TEMPE, Ariz. -- Through four games, the Cardinals have yet to unleash their vaunted return game. But special teams coach Kevin Spencer has no complaints with the performance of his punter and kicker. Dave Zastudil ranks just 12th in the league in yards per punt (47.5), but he is seventh in net yards per punt (42.9), a far more important stat. Hes also fifth in punts downed inside the 20-yard line (nine) and he has the third-longest punt in the NFL this season, a 68-yarder he boomed Sunday that Michael Adams downed at the Miami 5-yard line. How good was Zastudil on Sunday? Of his nine punts, only two were returned for a total of 27 yards (a 3-yard average per punt). Zastudil had average numbers in 2011 after the Cardinals brought him in to replace Ben Graham. But Spencer played a hunch that better days were coming. David was kind of in an unfair situation last season when we brought him in, Spencer said. Hed been out of football for a year and a half -- maybe close to two. He had...

Cards Visit Rams for NFC West Bout

Cards Visit Rams for NFC West Bout By SBRForum.com When the NFL schedule came out over the summer Thursday night's scheduled bout between the Arizona Cardinals and St. Louis Rams at the Jones Dome (8:20 pm ET, NFL Network) didn't garner much attention. It wasn't pretty, but 4-0 Cards got the job done

GLENDALE, Ariz. -- There will be plenty of noticeable blemishes when the Cardinals roll the film of Sundays 24-21 overtime win over the Dolphins at University of Phoenix Stadium. The offensive line and quarterback Kevin Kolb allowed eight sacks. Kolb tossed maybe the worst interception of his career with his team poised to seize control of the game. The running game limped...

According to Dan Arkush of ProFootballWeekly.com, Arizona Cardinals defensive end Darnell Docket is expected to play on Thursday night against the Rams, even though he missed this past Sunday’s game with a hamstring injury. “Although it’s not a given, we hear Darnell Dockett probably will be back wreaking havoc from his customary DLE spot this Thursday night against the Rams...

Feeley's kick in OT keeps Cardinals undefeated

GLENDALE, Ariz. -- There's something about overtime games that must appeal to the Arizona Cardinals because they play enough of them and usually, it works out in their favor in the end. It did once again on Sunday as Jay Feely's 46-yard field goal with 8:29 left in overtime clipped the Miami Dolphins, 24-21, at University of Phoenix Stadium. It was the Cardinals'...

Arizona Cardinals: Week 5 NFL Power Rankings (#15)

Last week: 16 (+1) Record: 4-0 I was going to call the Cardinals the worst 4-0 team ever, but then I remembered the 2009 Broncos. The Broncos, much like the Cardinals this year, were one of my preseason picks to be among the worst in the league. After the Broncos started 2-0, 3-0, 4-0 etc, I started calling them the worst 2-0, 3-0, 4-0, etc team ever because of how they were winning...

But the Arizona Cardinals are 4-0 for the first time since before I was born. Scott Allen, editor of the Raising Zona blog, says he’s surprised at how well the season started but adds that expectations have now risen. “I can see them winning at least...

Miami Dolphins vs. Arizona Cardinals: Hero and Zero of the Game

Entering Week 4 of the 2012 NFL season, the NFC was 8-4 in games against the AFC. This comes as a surprise because in previous seasons (Super Bowl aside), the AFC reigned supreme over the NFC in regular season match-ups. With two cross-conference games scheduled today, the lead will grow or narrow. After the San Francisco 49ers pummeled the New York Jets 34-0, the remaining AFC...
