Back in August, the Carolina Panthers were the sexy choice for pundits wanting to look outside the box for potential Super Bowl contenders. They were coming off the back of Cam Newton’s incredible rookie season statistically and were looking for that performance not only to continue but to show itself in the team’s record for 2012. From the minute they rushed for just 10 total yards against the Buccaneers in Week 1 to a December defeat to the woeful Kansas City Chiefs to send their record to 3-9, the Panthers’ season was a mess. On the face of it, though, the run up to the 2013 season should have a similar positive tone as 12 months ago.
