FOX has the game, and have assgned the Stockton - Lynch PBP combo...again. Feels like they have become the designated Lions' broadcasters, for better or worse. Usually worse. Stockton has been showing his age, and Lynch is, well, meh.  Where's Gus Johnson when you really need hmi?  Lions start with the ball, and come out throwing. A long pass to Megatron just misses, as does a throw to the Scheffler...who was OPEN. Lions 3rd and long, and burn a TO. Not good. Neither is Stafford's 3rd pass of the game...PICK! IT'S THE GLOVE! IT'S THE WIND! Hell, I don't know, but that's 5 INTs in 4 quarters for Stafford. But Cam Newton is pressured....hit by KVB as he throws, and returns the favor on 3rd and long...PICK! Lions start a new drive, and convert on 3rd and long this time around. But the running game is doing both jack and ****. It's going to take Stafford and his magic glove to move the ball. 3rd and 10...Stafford in the one open...tak...

Detroit Lions come alive to beat Carolina

Three weeks ago, Kevin Smith was sitting on his couch, out of the NFL.  Today he scored three touchdowns to lead a Lions comeback.  The running back who is now in his second stint with Detroit rushed for 140 yards and added 61 yards through the air.  Smith also scored the game clinching touchdown as the Lions overcame a 17 point deficit to beat the Carolina Panthers 49-35. Smith...

Cam Newton is staring to look like a rookie for the Carolina Panthers

22-year old QB Cam Newton looked really good early this year for the Panthers, but he has looked like the rookie he is in his last couple games.  In Newton’s last two games, he has completed 45 of 78 passes (57.7%) for 492 yards with 1 TD pass and 5 INTs.  Overall this year, Newton’s numbers still look solid.  He has played in 10 games for the Panthers so far this year and...

Lions RB Smith practices with first team

Detroit Lions running back Kevin Smith practiced with the first team Tuesday. Smith is expected to start in Thursday's game against the Green Bay Packers after a monster performance in Sunday's 49-35 win over the Chicago Bears. A former third-round pick of Detroit, the oft-injured Smith was not brought back in 2011 after appearing in only six games last season. In his...

Kevin Smith Goes from Unemployed to Career Day in Just Two Weeks

Kevin Smith racked up over 200 yards of total offense and scored two touchdowns during Detroit’s comeback victory over the Panthers on Sunday.  Yes, that Kevin Smith.  The same Kevin Smith who was drafted by the Lions in the third round in 2008.  The same one who totaled over 1,000 yards of offense in his [...]

Happy return for Lions RB Smith

DETROIT -- Lions receiver Calvin Johnson did not catch one of Matthew Stafford's five touchdown passes Sunday against the Carolina Panthers, but he was delighted for someone who did. Kevin Smith, the Lions' third-round pick (64th overall) in the 2008 NFL Draft, returned to his original team on Nov. 7 during the bye week. After leading the team in rushing his rookie season...

Newton does a smart thing

Cam Newton saw on second down that he couldn't make a play, so he simply scrambled to his right for a 3-yard gain and got out of bounds with 15 seconds left. Then, on third-and-7, he found Legedu Naanee for a gain of about six. Gotta appreciate the effort these Panthers receivers are giving to

NFC North: Green Bay Packers Win Again, Lions and Bears Still Tied

Detroit Lions 49, Carolina Panthers 35 (box score) The Lions overcame three early turnovers with a strong performance by running back Kevin Smith and five touchdown passes by Matthew Stafford. Cam Newton threw a season-high four interceptions and finished with a quarterback rating of just 50.2 in the loss. The Lions overcame their third deficit of at least 17 points of the season...

Ford Field livens up for a key third-and-9 at the Panthers' 26. Cam Newton's pass to Steve Smith falls incomplete. Safety Chris Harris on the coverage.

Carolina Panthers: Position-By-Position Analysis

The key players on the Panthers' roster will remain largely intact through the 2012 season and, in many cases, longer than that. A position-by-position analysis by Observer columnist Scott Fowler: Quarterbacks: The electrifying Cam Newton has made the team relevant again. He's signed through the 2014 season, but expect the Panthers to use all means at their disposal (franchise...
