The dog days of training camp are upon us and the heat of Spartanburg, S.C. is taking it's toll on the players of the Carolina Panthers slowly, but surely.
The Panthers have been at it since Saturday, July 28, and some players have begun to leave their mark on the fields of Wofford College where the Panthers have practiced since the franchise was founded in 1995.
Let's take a look now at observations and thoughts from Panthers camp:
• Cam Newton has struggled. EVERYONE PANIC. I know it's just camp, but the sophomore signal caller has had his fair share of interceptions and poor reads so far in camp.
You can credit some of that to a healthy defense that is finally understanding what defensive coordinator Sean McDermott is wanting to do and also a new 3-4 scheme that is being implemented by the staff. Whatever it is, Newton hasn't looked his best on throws, but let's not get ahead of ourselves folks, it's early.

Cam Newton exceeded all expectations last year, especially mine. Coming out of Auburn I was not expecting Cam Newton to be able to adapt to the NFL game. Watching his interview with Coach John Gruden, when he could not name a single play, I thought he was going to fail.
I have no problem admitting I was wrong. Cam Newton exploded onto the scene and became a superstar in the...
Cam Newton is everywhere.
If he's not flying through your television set on ''Cam's Night Out'' hawking Under Armour gear or sucking down Gatorade and ''Winning the Fifth Quarter,'' chances are you've seen the 23-year-old quarterback featured prominently by the NFL in advertisements for its preseason games.
He's been on the intro...
Panthers’ quarterback Cam Newton has his center Ryan Kalil’s back. After Kalil took out a newspaper ad in the Charlotte Observer that boldly predicted a Super Bowl win for his franchise, he was scoffed at by just about everyone outside of his organization.

Wide receiver Brandon LaFell says he's ready for a bigger role with the Carolina Panthers.
And he'll get it this year.
LaFell enters his third season as the Panthers' No. 2 receiver and will start alongside five-time Pro Bowler Steve Smith.
LaFell started six games at the end of last year and played well but knows this is no time to relax. The Panthers (No. 20 in the...
Spartanburg, SC – The Carolina Panthers worked out in the rain this morning. But the big story of the day was that Jeff Otah, the injury-plagued offensive tackle is returning to the team after his trade to the New York Jets was voided when Otah failed his physical with New York.
Jeff Otah’s return to the Panthers could be awkward
The Panthers can keep Otah on the physically unable...
Defensive tackle Ron Edwards arrived at Carolina Panthers training camp with one thing on his mind: ''I just wanted to hit something.''
You can't blame him.
Edwards' first season in Carolina lasted all of about two-and-a-half hours. He tore his triceps in Carolina's first training camp practice last summer. The Panthers quickly placed him on injured...
General manager Marty Hurney said the Carolina Panthers are waiting for the results of a physical exam on offensive tackle Jeff Otah before making a decision on the future of the team's former first-round draft pick.
Carolina traded Otah to the New York Jets last week, but the deal was rescinded after Otah failed his physical. He reverted back to the Panthers' roster.
SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- Cam Newton was asked Monday afternoon if he was going to add to his Superman celebration that gained so much national attention last season.
His reply: Hmmmmm, stay tuned and youll see.
There are many other reasons to stay tuned regarding the Carolina Panthers and Newton, last seasons NFL Rookie of the Year.
Newton seemingly began preparing for this season...
SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) -- Carolina Panthers owner Jerry Richardson said center Ryan Kalil's prediction of a Super Bowl victory this season was "pretty cool."
Kalil took out a full-page advertisement in The Charlotte Observer last week guaranteeing Carolina fans would be rewarded for their unwavering support with the Vince Lombardi Trophy. Richardson made a similar...
SPARTANBURG, SC -- To say there's plenty of competition in the Carolina Panthers' training camp at wide receiver would be an understatement.
Holdovers such as Brandon LaFell, Armanti Edwards, David Gettis, Darvin Adams and Kealoha Pilares are vying to make the team in some cases and to raise their performance to possibly complement star veteran Steve Smith in another. Newcomers...
Carolina Panthers general manager Marty Hurney says defensive end/linebacker Jyles Tucker has left training camp and the team has terminated his contract. Hurney wouldn't rule out bringing Tucker back at some point. Hurney says Tucker, who signed a one-year contract this offseason with the Panthers, left camp so he could focus on gaining weight. Tucker reported to training camp...
The Panthers are still waiting to see if their trade of former first-round pick Jeff Otah to the Jets goes through, but they've clearly moved on without him.
If Otah doesn't pass the Jets physical by Tuesday's deadline, he'd revert to the Panthers, but they think there's enough interest league-wide that they can move him elsewhere if need be. The Panthers got...
Brandon LaFell is eager to play a bigger role this year in the Carolina Panthers' offense.
And he's going to get that opportunity.

The NFC East is a beast of a division. Every team is solid, including the Redskins. You have the defending Super Bowl Champions in the Giants. A self-proclaimed “dynasty” in the Eagles. As well as “America’s Team” with the Cowboys. This division is the best in the NFL and will have far and away the most intense race to the finish as well...
