The Carolina Panthers head into Atlanta to take on a new-look Falcons' team that is playing like a true Super Bowl contender. On the flip side, the Panthers are a long ways away from living up to their self-made preseason hype of making it to the big dance.Heading into Week 4, the Falcons are one of three teams that remain undefeated, with the others being the Texans and the Cardinals. While their early success should be attributed to the entire team playing at a high level, a large proportion of the credit also needs be given to fifth-year quarterback, Matt Ryan, who is playing like the league MVP thus far. The Boston College product leads the NFL in completion percentage (72.0), passer rating (114.0), and touchdown passes with eight (tied with Ben Roethlisberger and Ryan Fitzpatrick). In addition, he has thrown only one interception in the short season and is on pace to record back-to-back seasons of at least 4,000 yards passing. On the other hand, the Panthers' second-year...

Week 4 NFL Preview: Carolina Panthers at Atlanta Falcons

Right now, Matt Ryan is head and shoulders above the rest of the NFL in the MVP race. Granted, they’ve only played three games but it seems like he has refocused and started utilizing all of his weapons surrounding him on offense. Cam Newton, on the other hand, has struggled mightily thus far in 2012. With his Panthers off to a 1-2 start and coming off of an embarassing loss at...

Panthers coach Ron Rivera says star linebacker Jon Beason is back at practice but questionable for Sunday's game at Atlanta. The three-time Pro Bowl player sat out most of the week with shoulder and knee problems. He practiced on a limited basis Friday. Rivera says he'll see how Beason recovers from practice before deciding at game time if he'll suit up. If Beason can...

Carolina Panthers @ Atlanta FalconsA tale of two teams, the Falcons' offense is firing on all cylinders while the Panthers' offense is sputtering at best. The Falcons have dominated every game they have played up to this point on their way to 3-0 and their best start in eight seasons. The Panthers, however, have stumbled out of the gates, currently sitting at 1-2, the offense...

Panthers' slow starting defense needs to step up

The Panthers need to avoid another slow start Sunday to have a better chance of upending the unbeaten Atlanta Falcons. That's something they haven't done this season. The Panthers haven't shown up ready to play and have allowed opponent to score a touchdown on the opening possession in all three games. The Panthers (1-2) recovered in Week 2 to beat New Orleans, but...

Atlanta Falcons: Tony Gonzalez Still Dominating Defenses at 36

Atlanta Falcons tight end, Tony Gonzalez, has one of my favorite nicknames of all time, "Gonzo".I don't know if it is somehow tied to the "origin of parts unknown" Muppet character with the curly, odd-shaped nose.Or if the name is derived from the actual word which the Muppet character was named for.The chicken or the egg? Who cares.Gonzo is a fitting nickname...

The Falcons are off to the best start imaginable as they are 3-0 and flying high. On the flip side, the Carolina Panthers are 1-2 and coming off of a 29 point blow out at the hands of the defending Super Bowl Champions. Everything points to the Falcons being able to win this game. Sounds like an easy bet if that's your thing but let's not start signing up for our players...
