Last week: 28 (-2) Record: 1-6 Cam Newton is now 1-10 in his career in games decided by a touchdown or less and 6-17 overall. Typically, records in touchdown games even out over time. Teams that win a game by a touchdown or less win their following game 52% of the time if that game is also decided by a touchdown or less. However, it’s very troubling that Newton has started his career this way. Typically, franchise quarterbacks are the exception to that rule and have a better than average record in games decided by touchdown or left. Cam Newton isn’t close to that at this point in his career. He’s still got plenty of upside, but it’s become increasingly obvious that we anointed him too fast. Unfortunately for him, because of that, he’s being viewed as a major disappointment this year, when really he’s just going through growing pains. I still have confidence in him long term. Studs WR Steve Smith: Caught 7 passes for 118 yards on 15 attempts on 46 snaps, 1.2 YAC per catch, 1 drop, 1 ...

Carolina Panthers' Steve Smith, DeAngelo Williams on trading block?

With the Carolina Panthers season already in the garbage can through just seven games, there is talk swirling about the team trading two offensive veterans, running back DeAngelo Williams and wide receiver Steve Smith. On Tuesday, the Charlotte Observer reported that an NFC team inquired about Smith, but no further discussions have taken place.   The 33-year-old wideout has...

Carolina Panthers snatch defeat from jaws of victory, lose another heartbreaker to Chicago Bears

I'm still trying to figure out exactly how the Carolina Panthers managed to lose to the Chicago Bears on Sunday. The Panthers outgained the Bears by more than 200 yards, dominated the time of possession, won the turnover battle and held a 12-point lead in the fourth quarter. But, somehow, the team managed to cough up the lead and throw away another winnable game, ultimately...

Cam Newton: Top 5 Things He Will Do On Halloween

Cam Newton is one of the most freakish athletes in the NFL.  His play mesmerized people during his first season as a professional.  Unfortunately, his second season has not gone as well as many had hoped.  His numbers are declining and the Panthers are one of the worst teams in the league with a record of 1-6. Halloween marks the midway point of the season and Cam needs to have...

DeAngelo Williams Needs to Be Traded by Panthers Before Thursday's NFL Trade Deadline Due to Crowded Backfield

The Carolina Panthers have the rare opportunity to erase a boneheaded decision made one year ago, and they have to take it. The Panthers signed DeAngelo Williams to a five-year, $43 million contract in July of 2011, and now they must trade him. The decision to sign Williams never made sense. Running backs should never be signed long-term to such large contracts...

Report: “Viable Chance” DeAngelo Williams Is Traded

Darin Gantt of Pro Football Talk reports that league sources have him informed him that there’s a “viable chance” that the Carolina Panthers trade RB DeAngelo Williams before tomorrow’s deadline. Gantt adds that “several teams” have already been in contact with the Panthers regarding Williams and the interest among these teams is “serious.” Williams contract seems...

QUICK SPIN: LaFell has a Concussion…

Brandon LaFell took a big hit against the Steelers and, according to Panther's head coach Ron Rivera, passed a concussion test on the sideline. If indeed he did pass the sideline testing then it was insufficient because he has been sidelined now, probably for Week 9 at least, with a concussion. If testing wasn't administered this could become a real issue for the Panthers.

Report: DeAngelo Williams could be “on the move”

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter via Evan Silva, the Carolina Panthers are still taking calls on possibly trading running back DeAngelo Williams and he could end up being traded. “Could be on the move. Panthers continue to listen to phone calls. There is interest from other teams,” said Schefter. With Williams being 29 years-old, I wouldn’t bother trading for him with all...

Panthers’ DeAngelo Williams ignoring trade rumors

Carolina Panthers running back DeAngelo Williams admitted Wednesday that while he is frustrated with his slow start he is ignoring the trade rumors involving him (Credit: AP Photo) After a career low start to his 2012 NFL season, Carolina Panthers back DeAngelo Williams has been the subject of some trade rumors. Williams currently only has 210 yards on 61 attempts and the Panthers...

RB Williams trying to take demotion in stride

Panthers running back DeAngelo Williams is in the second year of the five-year, $43.5 million contract yet his future in Carolina has never been more uncertain. Williams was benched two weeks ago for Jonathan Stewart and has just 13 carries for 37 yards in his last two games. He's says he's heard talk about being on the trading block, but doesn't pay much attention...

Teams Have Contacted The Panthers About Steve Smith, But Carolina Has Turned Down Offers

Jay Glazer of FOX Sports reports that NFL teams have made calls to the Carolina Panthers to see if WR Steve Smith is available, but they’re reportedly not interested in trading him. Smith, 33, actually has a reasonable amount of money left on his contract, so there’s a chance that the Panthers could have received a decent draft pick in return for him. Smith will make $3.75...

Carolina Panthers at Washington Redskins: Week 9 NFL Pick

Carolina Panthers (1-6) at Washington Redskins (3-5) This is one of two trap lines I identified this week. According to this line, the Redskins and the Panthers are comparable teams with Washington as 3 point home favorites. However, Washington is at 3-5 and the Panthers are at 1-6. Because of that, the action is on Washington and yet, the line is still falling as it opened at -4...

Chicago Bears Escape With a Win Over The Carolina Panthers

For more than three quarters Sunday afternoon, the NFC North leading Chicago Bears looked as though they were in big trouble against the visiting Carolina Panthers. Trailing Cam Newton’s one-win crew 13-7 at half time the Bears were even loudly booed by the Soldier Field faithful heading into the locker room."I'd boo us too," Bears quarterback Jay Cutler said. "...
