Of the 70 offensive plays the Seattle Seahawks ran against Arizona, more than half came in the Cardinals' half of the field.
And that makes the Seahawks' 20-16 loss even more difficult for Carroll to accept.
Seattle had plenty of chances, starting all the way back in the first quarter and ending when Russell Wilson's pass for Braylon Edwards at the goal line fell incomplete on fourth-down with 18 seconds remaining.
Carroll said Monday he was disappointed in the way the Seahawks offensive line protected its rookie quarterback. He said Arizona continually brought pressure on Wilson, but his linemen needed to be better.
If there was one piece of good news, it's that offensive tackle Russell Okung suffered just a bone bruise in his left knee and could play this week against Dallas.

One of the biggest stories before the beginning of the season was how great Russell Wilson was. While Wilson was starting to get the hype like Tim Tebow did a year ago, things all changed drastically when the Seahawks were beaten by Arizona in week one. The Russell Wilson for President talks quickly quieted. Wilson did not do that bad in week one against Arizona throwing...
Despite the fact that Russell Wilson lost his first ever NFL start this past Sunday, Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll had some good things to say about his rookie quarterback.
“I thought Russell battled,” Carroll said. “They pressured a lot, made it tough on us. But he hung in there, came back, and did a very nice job of getting back into the game in the second half.”
When the Seattle Seahawks paid Matt Flynn that big contract earlier this year, no one would have expected it was to be a back up. Flynn has been waiting to get in the game, because rookie Russell Wilson has unseated him as the teams starter, but can he keep the spot? After yesterday’s performance Wilson did a decent job, but they couldn’t come way with the...
Well, that wasn't quite what we expected. Russell Wilson's first half left much to be desired, though he did bounce back and have a nice second half -- and incredible field position thanks to the kick return prowess of Leon Washington. But where was the red zone offense? Where were the conversion opportunities? And where was the pass defense? These are questions that need...
GLENDALE, Ariz. -- To preserve a nail-biting 20-16 win over Seattle on Sunday, the Cardinals defense had to complete what seemed like three or four red-zone stands in the final minute.
Two pass interference penalties. Six plays after what could have been a turnover on downs. And, remarkably, a phantom timeout.
The defense came through, though, forcing Seahawks rookie quarterback...
Step up time
The Seattle Seahawks are headed down to University of Phoenix Stadium Sunday to take on division foe Arizona to start the regular season. Many feel it could be a trap game given the rookie factor surrounding this Seahawk team as well as the injuries the team has sustained.
With so many questionable players, it is hard to say exactly who will play in week 1. The ones...
The Arizona Cardinals withstood a late rally by the Seahawks minutes after putting together a rally of their own. Seattle had multiple opportunities in the last minute, but rookie quarterback Russell Wilson couldn’t get the ball into the end zone. This game was lacking statistical stars, but one player really stood out as the hero of the game. Kevin Kolb entered the game after...
No Game Balls Today!
Seven, count ‘em seven plays inside the red zone in the final minute for the Seahawks. That is what went wrong. Correction; that is what went wrong in a nutshell.
My unfortunate job is to crack open that nutshell, and breakdown the hurt and disappointment inside.
Why not get started!
The entire offense really struggled to get going during...
From Adrian Peterson, Trent Richardson and Stephen Hill to Robert Griffin III and Russell Wilson, we thought we knew what was going to happen during Week 1 of the NFL season. The first Sunday of the NFL season has finally come and gone. While many of us believed we knew what was going to happen, the results were normal for the first week, completely off from what we thought.
WORK IN PROGRESS
A misinterpretation of the injury timeout rules led to the Seahawks being given an extra timeout at a crucial time at the end of their game against Arizona.
For the first time in history five rookie quarterbacks started in Week 1 of the NFL season, but only one came away with a victory and a number one ranking. 1. Robert Griffin III RGIII stole the show as the Washington Redskins defeated the New Orleans Saints 40-32. Looking like anything but a rookie, Griffin only [...]
I just want to again say thank you to a couple of people for hooking me up with tickets to the Cardinals v Seahawks game before I get into my recap.
Thanks to@AZBirdgangMC for getting me in touch with @wildcard44 who was good enough to get me two lower level seats for the game.
I had a blast and was able to take my dad with me, so it made it even more enjoyable as I was able to repay...
