Though the Oakland Raiders were long ago eliminated from playoff contention, Andre Carter is relishing the final few weeks of the season as if it were a championship run.
Just over a year after sustaining a quadriceps injury that could have ended his career, the 33-year-old defensive end thinks he's almost all the way back to the form that earned him his first Pro Bowl selection in 2011.
Carter had a sack and three quarterback hurries in the Raiders' 15-0 victory over Kansas City last week, and has played 70 snaps over the past two games.
What he doesn't have is a contract for next season. Not that Carter seems too concerned about it. At this stage in his career, simply being back on the field and playing is enough.

Dennis Allen has gone through a lot this season, on and off the field. He understands that there are things bigger than football, and that if you accept losing in life, your football team won’t be very good either.
In Allen’s personal life, the passing of his father must have left a huge void, but he’s never missed a game and expects his player to be as mentally tough.
According to Steve Corkran of the Contra Costa Times, the Oakland Raiders plan on expanding back up quarterback Terrelle Pryor’s role for this week’s game against the Panthers.
Second-year quarterback Terrelle Pryor will be used on some third-down and red-zone plays against the Panthers so that the Raiders “can create a different look the defense to contend with” and “try...
And by punter, we mean arm-punter. The Oakland Raiders are so bad, that they are willing to give Terrelle Pryor “meaningful” snaps. When the 2012 season began, who would have thought that Pryor would be in a better position for taking snaps in Week 15 than Tim Tebow? But by every indication from the Raiders’ [...]
When Mike Goodson was in Carolina, he had to share a crowded backfield with DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart.
He wanted a better opportunity because Carolina had committed so much money to the above two, there was no way he would see the field while they were healthy. However, when the two went down in 2010 Goodson gained 452 yards and 3 touchdowns with a 4.4 average.
How can the Oakland Raiders, a team with defensive difficulties against both the run and pass, possibly prepare for Cam Newton? "We've got the closest guy to him right here in Terrelle Pryor," running back Mike Goodson said. Added Raiders coach Dennis Allen: "He does have some of the same skill set." Pryor has been running read-option plays during practice...
Oakland Raiders backup quarterback Terrelle Pryor will get significant playing time on Sunday, offensive coordinator Greg Knapp said Thursday. Knapp said the second-year quarterback from Ohio State, who got in for three plays last week, will play on third downs and more against the Carolina Panthers. "Maybe in the red zone – try and create a different look for the defense...
Boosted by Sebastian Janikowski five field goals made and a shutout imposed by the defense, the Oakland Raiders were able to break their six game losing streak and leave the O.Co Coliseum with a victory over the Kansas City Chiefs by 15 points. It was the last home contest of the season for the Silver&Black, who now head to a [...]
Another week down, another step closer to making off-season improvements for 3 of the four teams in the AFC West. The Chiefs have a stranglehold on at least the No. 2 overall pick in the draft, while the Raiders and Chargers both will almost certainly join them with top ten picks themselves. In the winner’s bracket, the Broncos have positioned themselves as the [...]
After spending most of the season on the bench, Terrelle Pryor has been playing a key role this week for the Oakland Raiders by impersonating Cam Newton in practice.
Pryor could have an even higher-profile role come game time Sunday against the Carolina Panthers. Offensive coordinator Greg Knapp says Pryor will get on the field in certain specialty packages for the Raiders (4-10...

The Raiders shut out the Chiefs last week and still are tied for the league’s worst scoring defense. Aside from a weird win over the Steelers week 3, the Raiders wins have all come against the Chiefs (twice) and the Jaguars, who are the league’s worst teams right...
The Contra Costa Times reports that Raiders quarterback Terrelle Pryor will see some action on third downs and red zone plays Sunday against Carolina.Fantasy Spin:Pryor's presence could have a negative impact on Carson Palmer's fantasy value heading into what should be Championship Sunday for most fantasy leagues.
Oakland Raiders (4-10) at Carolina Panthers (5-9)
One of my favorite trends is the six and six trend, which says that teams who finish with 6 wins or fewer are 23-64 ATS since 2002 as favorites of 6 or more. So far this year, teams that are currently 5-9 or worse are 2-5 ATS as favorites of 6 or more this season. The Eagles failed to cover week 1 as 8.5 point favorites in Cleveland...
Needless to say, the 2012 season won’t end the way GM Reggie McKenzie and head coach Dennis Allen envisioned. As the season draws to a close, there is no shortage of decisions to be made about the direction the Raiders are going. Certainly the Raiders will be heading into a slightly more accommodating salary cap situation, if only because several large contracts are expiring (most...
