Found December 16, 2011 on Inside The Panthers:
Rookie cornerback Brandon Hogan is likely to see his first game action Sunday when he will be activated for the Panthers' game at Houston, head coach Ron Rivera said. Hogan, who underwent knee surgery last December and was on the physically unable to perform list until early November, will fill a spot created by the absence of cornerback Darius Butler who is out with a concussion. "Brandon will be up and we'll get an opportunity to have him play some special teams and who knows, maybe we'll get some base reps or nickel reps. I'm pretty excited about seeing the young man," Rivera said. Starting offensive tackle Jordan Gross (ankle) and cornerback Captain Munnerlyn (ankle) both are expected to play against the Houston. Reserve offensive lineman Bryant Browning is questionable due to a wrist injury suffered during the team's Friday workout. Rivera said he will decide Saturday whether Olindo Mare or Adi Kunalic will be the Panthers' kicker in Houston, t...

Steve Smith rips Tim Tebow

Panthers WR Steve Smith isn't a Tim Tebow believer, saying the defense deserves more credit than it's been receiving, and that Tebow wouldn't make his son's flag football team.

If Jordan Gross doesn’t play…

With Jordan Gross listed as questionable due to an ankle injury, the cynical worst-case thoughts are spinning inside of me. What if our best offensive lineman isn’t good to go on Sunday against a formidable foe? Gross, is a tough guy and will most likely play, but the impact that the team- mainly Cam Newton- will feel if he does not play Sunday will be huge. If Gross doesn’t...

Cam Newton’s Ability and Future

Cam Newton’s emergence as the Carolina Panthers franchise quarterback and possible savior has been one of the most captivating storylines of the 2011 NFL season. The electrifying Auburn product has managed to become a sensation and one of the most marketable players in the league. Although Von Miller’s once-in-a-generation talent at linebacker trumps Newton’s overall...

Cam Newton is still playing at a high level for the Carolina Panthers

22-year old rookie QB Cam Newton is still playing at a very high level for the Panthers.  He has played in 13 games for the Panthers so far this year and he has completed 270 of 452 passes (59.7%) for 3,573 yards with 15 TD passes and 16 INTs (81.1 QB Rating).  Newton also has carried the ball 107 times for 554 yards (5.2 ypc) with an already NFL record 13 TD runs for a QB.  It’s...

Handicapping Pro Bowl odds for Smith, Newton

The connection Cam Newton and Steve Smith made during the lockout with throwing sessions in Charlotte could carry through to Hawaii. The stalwarts of the Panthers' offense have a good shot of earning Pro Bowl bids, based on the voting totals with less than a week of fan balloting remaining. Newton, the rookie quarterback phenom, and Smith, the four-time, Pro Bowl receiver, are...

Smith: Newton vs. Tebow no comparison

Veteran Carolina Panthers receiver Steve Smith showed some love to his rookie quarterback Cam Newton, whose stellar first season has been largely overshadowed by the unexpected emergence of Tim Tebow. While giving credit to the Broncos quarterback for the last-minute heroics that have sparked Tebow-mania, Smith said he would take Newton any day over Denver's new deity. "...

Cheerleader of the Week: TopCat Captain Courtney

This week we’re heading over to the Carolinas to focus on another bright spot from the Panthers.  Nope, we’re not talking about Cam Newton and the future of this franchise.   We’re talking about one of the TopCats Cheerleaders.  And her name is Courtney. Courtney’s an Ole Miss alum doing what she loves.   She’s a Mississippi native and loves her family, friends,...

Steve Smith: Tebow does not compare to Newton

Count Panthers receiver Steve Smith among those who aren't fawning over Denver quarterback Tim Tebow. While acknowledging Tebow's run of fourth-quarter comebacks, Smith said he'd still take Panthers rookie Cam Newton over Tebow any day. “You can't compare Cam to Tebow. I think Cam's a more complete player,” Smith said. “Tebow has the wins. But everybody...

DeAngelo Williams is tired of getting tackled by his dreadlocks

DeAngelo Williams is having a relatively quiet year for the Panthers. His yardage might be a little bit better if he didn’t keep getting tackled from behind when a defender grabs his dreadlocks. It’s happened at least twice, including last week against Atlanta. Williams learned that it can be legal. “I actually learned something about…
