Date: Friday, July 26, 2013 Practice Time: 8:20 a.m. (Total: 2 hours, 20 minutes) Sidelined: CB Casey Hayward (hamstring - expected back in two weeks) CB Davon House (illness) DE Mike Neal (abdomen - is a couple weeks away from returning) RB DuJuan Harris (knee - will be out a week or two) OL Derek Sherrod (leg) S Sean Richardson (neck) OL J.C. Tretter (ankle - likely out until midseason) DL Jerel Worthy (knee - likely out until midseason) LB Jamari Lattimore (illness) S Chaz Powell (foot) Movin' On Up: CB Micah Hyde The one name that filled up a good portion of the notebook Friday was Hyde, a rookie cornerback out of Iowa. When the Packers began their 11-on-11 team drills, Hyde instantly made his presence felt by breaking up a pass from Graham Harrell to wide receiver Alex Gillett across the middle of the field. Later, in 7-on-7 competition, Hyde was matched up with Randall Cobb and made a great play to knock down a pass from Harrell. Coach Mike McCarthy noticed Hyde's impressive day, as well. "If you had asked me who was the one player that jumped out to me today, I'd say it was Micah," McCarthy said. "That's something that you saw on his college film at Iowa, his ability to play the football. He has excellent ball skills. He's a very good anticipator. He jumped out to to me, especially being on offense and calling the plays. I thought he got off to a good start." So You Had A Bad Day: WR Myles White There is room for at least two young wide receivers to make Green Bay's roster this season. With Jarrett Boykin and and Jeremy Ross returning from last season and the Packers having two seventh-round picks (Charles Johnson and Kevin Dorsey) vying for a spot, an undrafted receiver like White really has to consistently play well. Unfortunately for the former Louisiana Tech speedy receiver, Friday was not a good day. While going through receiving routes, White dropped back-to-back passes with nobody defending him. No other receiver dropped more than one pass in those drills, which left White to walk back in line having missed two key opportunities to impress the coaching staff. Noted: - The Packers added something new to their training camp practices: music intermissions. In an effort to simulate in-game timeouts, McCarthy blared music over the speakers during each of the team's three water breaks. The songs were: Robin Thicke, "Blurred Lines" - Mumford & Sons, "I Will Wait" - Darius Rucker, "Wagon Wheel." - Marshall Newhouse took the first set of snaps with the starters at right tackle. Don Barclay also had several plays as the starting right tackle but not until Newhouse had his chance. - Barclay, surprisingly, also was used as a backup center. - Alex Green was the first running back on the field with the starters, but James Starks, Eddie Lacy and Johnathan Franklin also had several opportunities with the first-team offense. - M.D. Jennings was the starting safety next to Morgan Burnett early in practice, but Jerron McMillian later had a shot with the starters. - Jarrett Bush, who may end up No. 6 on the cornerback depth chart when the regular season begins, was starting outside in some drills. However, that is mostly because Hayward and House both did not practice. - Mason Crosby and Giorgio Tavecchio had the first field goal battle of training camp. The winner: Tavecchio. Both kickers connected on tries from 33 yards, 36 yards and 44 yards. Crosby then missed from 50 yards, but Tavecchio hit it. In their final kicks, both Crosby and Tavecchio missed then made field goals from 53 yards out.
