The CBS Sports Radio network will be launching January 2nd, and the talent lineup the network has put together for its four core three-hour shows is veteran-laden and impressive. The morning show from 6 to 9 AM just recently announced this week will be hosted by Tiki Barber, Dana Jacobson, and Brandon Tierney. Barber, the former New York Giants running back and failed Football Night in America analyst, steps back into the spotlight after leaving NBC in May 2010 surrounded by a cloud of controversy. Jacobson left ESPN at the end of April and is resurfacing at CBS Sports hosting the morning show as well as having an undefined role at CBS Sports Network. Tierney may not be nationally known, but he has a wealth of radio experience hosting morning shows in both New York and San Francisco as well as hosting pre and post game shows for the New York Knicks. The other shows throughout the rest of the day continue to bring big names. Following the morning show, John Feinstein will host the 9 AM to 12 PM show on the channel. Feinstein, the author of Season on the Brink (adapted into a movie by ESPN) has been hosting a show on the Mad Dog Sports channel of SiriusXM since this past March with Bruce Murray. Jim Rome takes over from Feinstein from noon to 3 PM, and the day will be closed by former ESPN college basketball analyst and radio host Doug Gottlieb hosting his show from 3 to 6 PM. It will be interesting to see if CBS Sports radio can get off the ground nationwide with what looks to be a very solid lineup. CBS is very serious about this radio network and there's a sizeable group of stations ready when the launch occurs. It'll also be interesting to see if CBS Sports Network starts syndicating any of their radio broadcasts on their fledging cable channel like the Dan Patrick Show on NBCSN and various ESPN Radio shows do. Right now Tim Brando's Yahoo Sports radio show holds down a spot on CBS Sports Network from 10-1 ET. I could certainly see the Jacobson-Barber-Tierney morning show appear as a simulcast, too. I'd like to see this new network succeed, but like anyone trying to compete with ESPN, it's going to be a rough climb. [CBS]
