Mixed bag for Bengals in opener

CINCINNATI - For starters, four Bengals starters got hurt. Preseason football is just the worst. It's a necessary evil, though, and one of the best things the Bengals can say about their preseason opener Friday night vs. the Jets is they got through it and can move forward. "My first thought is that we need to be a little crisper in the passing game," Bengals coach...

Head Coach Marvin Lewis Has Got His Bengals Off & Running

Marvin Lewis has his Bengals off and running, Cedric Peerman may have only had 7 touches in the Jets game but 2 of those were for touchdowns. The Bengals beat the Jets 17-6 last night and Lewis’s Bengals looked like they are already looking to control their own destiny. The Bengals defense looked good too. Vontaze Burfict was able to intercept a Tebow pass and return it for five...

Line by line football – Jets vs Bengals – Preseason Week 1

I’m excited like every other Bengal fan to see what our team can do.  So here I sit, Friday night, kids in bed, watching my team live.  What to do?  I’m going to write one line of text every time I feel like it that explains how I feel about the game at that moment in time.  Let’s see how it goes.  Ready? Go! 3 and out Manny Lawson Rey maualuga Leonard on tebow Hawkins...

Bernard Scott Questionable For Friday Night

Running back Bernard Scott (hand) is questionable for the Bengals' first preseason game.Fantasy Spin:Barring this turning into a long-term problem, it shouldn't effect his status as the No. 2 back behind BenJarvis Green-Ellis. In three seasons Scott has yet to run for more than 112 attempts in a year while Green-Ellis has averaged 205 carries the past two years in New England...

2013 NFL Preview: Cincinnati Bengals Edition

Previewing the NFL,  from A to Z     Last season the Cincinnati Bengals took the league by surprise.  Most experts had the Cleveland Browns going 8-8 or 9-7 and the Bengals going 4-12, but after the very first game of the season, we saw that it was going to be exactly the opposite.   Who would have thought, the very next season after Cincinnati got rid of Carson Palmer, Chad...

Cedric Benson Joins the Pack…

Cedric Benson will probably commit his next criminal action in Green Bay! So, congratulations to the residents and bar owners there. The veteran running back's best days are behind him but he will have a chance to outperform competition in Green Bay. This signing is reflective of the poor performance thus far in camp by incumbent starter James Starks. He has underwhelmed...

Bengals G Wharton hurts knee, leaves on cart

CINCINNATI (AP) -- Left guard Travelle Wharton hurt his right knee during Cincinnati's opening series and left the field on a cart, the start of a series of injuries to Bengals starters. Middle linebacker Rey Maualuga and defensive end Carlos Dunlap also left the field with injured right knees during the following series, costing the Bengals three of their starters in the opening...

Bengals Plan On Using Rotation At No. 2 WR Spot

For the time being, the Cincinnati Bengals plan on using a trio of wide receivers to play across from superstar A.J. Green @ajgreen_18. That trio consists of Armon Binns, Brandon Tate and rookie Mohamed Sanu @M0SAnu. Offensive coordinator referred to that group as "more or less interchangable." He continued to say, "Right now, the way they've performed, I have...

Bengals Lose Three Starters In First 5 Minutes Of Preseason Opener

The first quarter of their first preseason game of the 2012 season has not been kind to the Bengals. Less than five minutes into the game, guard Travelle Wharton, linebacker Rey Maualuga and defensive end Carlos Dunlap were injured on separate plays and had to be helped off the field. On the third play for the offense, Wharton went down with a right knee injury, and though he walked...

Reports: Bengals OG Wharton out for season

New Cincinnati Bengals left guard Travelle Wharton is out for the season with a knee injury, according to two reports. Wharton was one of several Bengals hurt in their 17-6 victory over the New York Jets on Friday. Wharton was injured on the third offensive play and was seen on crutches at halftime. ESPN's John Clayton and ProFootballTalk both reported Saturday that he is...

Free agent RB Cedric Benson visits Packers

Free agent running back Cedric Benson has visited the Green Bay Packers, who may be looking to boost their depth at running back. Agent Eugene Parker confirmed Friday that Benson visited Green Bay, but did not indicate that a deal was in place. ESPN reported earlier Friday that Benson had visited the team and was expected to sign. Benson is a free agent after four seasons with...

Cedric Benson? Really?

According to one report, the Packers signing of Cedric Benson is "probable." The move makes little sense on the surface and even less sense when you read the last line from our commentary.

New York Jets Vs. Cincinnati Bengals: What We Learned from Preseason Week One

NFL Preseason games ultimately mean next to nothing in the long run, the results forgotten soon after the final whistle. Individual performances are the main takeaway, as game situations can expose faults as well as strengths in an individual player's skill set. Preseason games are a good way to test how a unit is progressing, especially in weeks two and three on the preseason...

Packers sign Cedric Benson

After going fully with a youth approach at the running back position this offseason, the Packers have finally caved and signed a veteran back, signing Cedric Benson, formerly of the Cincinnati Bengals, to a one year contract. Prior to Benson’s signing, the idea was to have James Starks, a 2010 6th round pick with just 162 career carries, and Alex Green, a 2011 3rd round pick with...

Cedric Benson to Green Bay?

ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reports that free agent Cedric Benson is currently in Green Bay and expected to sign with the Packers. Green Bay is no doubt a very pass-happy offense, but adding a veteran presence to the backfield may help in key division games or in tough redzone situations. Benson is ageing rapidly, especially with his off-season problems and visits to the local state...
