Extra Pine Tar:
For a hulking human being who is encouraging his team’s fans to get blackout drunk on liquor (he was very specific), Chad Greenway sure knows a lot about the ethanol trade.
Here’s what he said three years ago:
“It’s pretty simple – we take good care of the land, the land takes good care of you.”
Here’s what he said this week, as he encouraged his fans to get loud for Sunday’s home game against the Bears.
“We have to play accordingly and our fans have to show up accordingly, which we know they will. Hopefully, they’re super-duper drunk. … So drink liquor, not beer.”
“Yeah, I would say morning drinking. Why not? You could pull an all-nighter. Then you’d have the drunk, tired guys who will really be obnoxious.”
I like the new Chad better. He’s not nearly as preachy.

Vikings linebacker Chad Greenway said his comments about fans getting drunk were made in a joking manner. That didn’t stop him from getting hammered by bloggers and other reporters.
EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. At 35 years old, Vikings cornerback Antoine Winfield certainly isn't the same player he was at age 27, his first year in Minnesota. That's to be expected, though, when football players get older.
But thanks to added weekly rest this season, Winfield has been able to stay fresh and that means he's staying on the field on Sundays.
Winfield is Minnesota...
Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Percy Harvin was placed on season-ending injured reserve Wednesday. Harvin was sidelined Sunday for a third straight game because of a sprained left ankle. The attention will quickly shift in Minnesota on how the Vikings can retain their most electric receiver. Harvin has not been happy that the Vikings didn't address his contract and considered...
Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Percy Harvin may have been
attempting to recover from a more significant ankle injury than initially
believed, reports Tom Pelissero of 1500 ESPN, who says the dynamic playmaker
suffered a Grade 3 sprain of his left ankle, meaning there was a complete
ligament tear involved.

Gov. Mark Dayton on Thursday downplayed the sluggish start of a statewide gambling initiative being counted on to help fund the new Minnesota Vikings stadium, saying doesn't plan to redo the financing package during the upcoming legislative session.
Dayton told reporters the early revenue projections are worth watching but shouldn't cause alarm about the merits of the electronic...
The Vikings didn’t take advantage of the Bears’ makeshift offensive line in the first meeting, but Everson Griffen is hoping they can change that Sunday.
Minnesota Vikings defensive end Everson Griffen and linebacker Jasper Brinkley were fined for plays against the Green Bay Packers last weekend, the Minneapolis Star-Tribune reported Friday. Griffen was fined $15,750 for roughing Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers and Brinkley was fined $7,875 for a facemask against wide receiver Randall Cobb. There was no penalty called on the play...
EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. Jared Allen has spent five years with the Minnesota Vikings and is well-versed in the Chicago Bears and what they try to do, having played nine career games against Chicago.
Nothing would shock Minnesota's veteran defensive end, who unfortunately has a 2-7 record in those games. Of course, Allen's never had the chance to face Chicago twice in the span...
Adrian Peterson wants to win a couple championships, but the Vikings haven’t even had a winning season since 2009. He is applying his mantra to running the ball to his career goals: patience. Still, as he eyes the 2,000-yard mark for the season, his goals extend beyond the yardage numbers.
Christian Ponder has been outplayed by other younger quarterbacks, but Leslie Frazier said he isn’t ready to “throw in the towel” on Ponder’s development. The quarterback, meanwhile, said he hasn’t lost confidence, even though he is making “pretty dumb” mistakes.
The Vikings’ dependence on Percy Harvin was evident before and after his injury. The playing percentages and production before and after his injury show there was only one beneficiary in his absence.
Minnesota Vikings (6-6) at Chicago Bears (8-4)
The Bears lost last week in upset fashion, but they still have a very good chance to be this year’s team that goes from out of the playoffs to a first round bye because the 49ers also lost. If they win 1 more game over their final 4 games than the 49ers do, they will almost definitely be the NFC’s #2 seed this year and they are really...
