It was a good experiment in theory, but after a less than productive season, veteran WR Chad Ochocinco is likely going to be done with the New England Patriots. Ochocinco appeared in 15 regular season games this season for New England, but he only recorded 15 receptions for 276 yards and only added one touchdown.
Signed to a three-year contract this offseason, Ochocinco is slated to earn slightly more than $3 million dollars in 2012, a dollar amount which doesn’t translate into his production on the field. The veteran pass catcher turned 34 in January and he struggled all season with the Patriots offense. It’s possible that he could return to the team next season only if he restructures his contract but it’s clear that New England has to add some outside speed on the field.
