According to Greg Bedard of the Boston Glode, the Patriots offensive system threw off wide receiver Chad Ochocinco this past season, which made it very difficult for him to make an impact on offense.  He was never able to get on the same page as quarterback Tom Brady. “They have a quarterback that has played within the same system for a number of years, so he’s so advanced within the system and you have players trying to play within the same system,’’ O’Shea said. “Tom’s level of advancement in the system is a difference to the new player because he moves fast and they need to move fast with him.’’ I don’t see any reason for the Patriots to keep Ochocinco for next season.  If he couldn’t get on the same page as Brady this season, what makes next season any different.  he certainly isn’t getting any younger and isn’t worth the $3 million the Patriots are scheduled to pay him in 2012.

Stephen Gostkowski, Zoltan Mesko Lead Patriots' Specialists Through Strong Season

Editor's note: Jeff Howe will review each position on the Patriots' roster every day through Feb. 13. This edition highlights the specialists. It looks like the Patriots have compiled their young battery of specialists. Kicker Stephen Gostkowski has been a staple since 2006, and he's signed through 2014. Punter Zoltan Mesko has emerged as one of the league's better...

Now’s not the time for a contract extension for Rob Gronkowski. Or is it?

Rob Gronkowski’s rookie deal takes him through the 2013 season, so there’s need to worry about the tight end and free agency in the immediate future.  But it might be wise for the Patriots, as well as Gronk’s camp to get the ball rolling on discussions at some point this year. In the lead to my NFL Sunday notes today, I examined the benefits for both sides beingÂ...

Patriots to try and sign Mario Williams?

Eric Edholm of Pro Football Weekly believes Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots could try and sign Houston Texans defensive end/linebacker Mario Williams once he becomes a free agent on March 13th. I honestly don’t see Belichick going after Williams, since he was still able to get a solid pass rush this season with Mark Anderson, Vince Wilfork and Andre Carter.  And...

Is Randy Moss a Good Fit For Patriots?

Former New England Patriots wide receiver Randy Moss announced Monday that he plans on returning to the NFL.  The seven-time pro bowler who played with the Patriots from 2007-2010 retired on August 1, 2011 after spending 2010 with the Patriots, Minnesota Vikings, and Tennessee Titans. The Patriots are in desperate need of a deep threat receiver and will likely be looking to free...

Gronkowski played in the Super Bowl with multiple torn ligaments

According to Shalise Manza Young of the Boston Globe, New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski had multiple torn ligaments in his ankle, which was the reason he underwent surgery on Friday. Now we know why Gronkowski’s agent Drew Rosenhaus said that he wouldn’t have played if last week’s game wasn’t the Super Bowl. Gronkowski’s injured ankle limited him to two receptions...

Brady spiral

The media should be talking about how Brady drove down the field and the Patriots won the Super Bowl. We should be spreading word that Belichick and Brady are the best combo ever, that they should rename the trophy to Belichick-Lambardi trophy. That Joe Montana now has a superior, but all that talk stood still. Instead we heard of controversy and questions. The first of is this...

Part III: If Gisele could have Played and Belichick would have Coached

By now, Gisele, you should have cooled off some. By now you should have studied the films of the game. Thus, you should have come to realize that Wes Welker, Aaron Hernandez, and Deion Branch are all and all arguably pretty good receivers. Perhaps, you still feel that they should have caught every pass near them. No argument! The truth, however, is that nary a receiver in the...
