Pennington has not had poor enough results to warrant being yanked and Clemens has not dazzled enough to justify starting. That being said, Clemens' performance certainly makes Pennington's leash a little shorter, just as it did Vinny Testaverde's a few years back. And we all know how that turned out.

This situation reminds me a lot of the Broncos last year. Plummer had a good year the year before, but they knew the future was right behind him. Chad is in a very similar situation. He has not done anything to lose the job, but the best thing for the team is for Clemens to take over at some point this season.

I don't think Plummer would have held onto the job as long as he did if the Broncos weren't winning. The Jets are 0-2 now. It's going to be a lot easier for Mangini to turn the reigns over to Clemens if the Jets are losing. Pennington better start winning, otherwise there is no use in playing him as the year progressed.
