Mike Chappell dutifully takes questions from readers each week.  One reader wants to know if a trade for Luck is in the cards: ANSWER: It’s certainly possible. The problem would be the cost. We’ve been discussing the value of the No. 1 overall pick in the event the Colts had it and decided to auction it to the highest bidder. What would it bring? Three No. 1s, a couple of No. 2s and a bit more? Maybe. I’m not certain it would cost that much for the Colts to move up one spot because the Rams would be getting the Colts’ No. 2 overall pick in any deal. But it still would be expensive. It would all depend on how committed the Colts would be to getting Luck. If they believe he’s the next Peyton Manning, maybe they pay whatever it takes in terms of draft picks. But doing that would limit the team’s ability to adequately build the team around him. That scenario will create a ton of lively debate. And lively debate makes the offseason go around.

Ryan: Jets won't pursue Manning

Rex likes to talk.  Today he claims Sanchez is his guy and even though he loves Peyton Manning nearly as much as his wife's feet, the Jets won't inquire about him in the offseason: "Peyton Manning.... I’ve said from Day One that I think he’s the best quarterback in the National Football League," Ryan added. "I even put him over Tom Brady.  So, of course...

Worth more: Manning or the #1 pick?

Jason LaCanfora has been speaking with several team executives about the hypothetical value Peyton Manning would have on the market: But let's start with Manning. The most any decision maker thought he was worth was a first- and a second-round pick. "I could see you making the case that he's worth what the Raiders gave up for Carson Palmer," one GM said, while...

Clayton: NFC strength due to Manning

John Clayton of ESPN notes that the NFC took advantage of a weaker AFC this year due in part to Manning's absence: There is no need for the NFC to get cocky about this year's success because it could be fleeting. Peyton Manning's neck injury helped change the balance. Because Manning's no-huddle offense is a matchup nightmare for NFC teams that see Indianapolis...

Rex Ryan says Jets will not pursue Peyton Manning in the offseason

Rex Ryan sang Peyton Manning’s praises yet again, but left no doubt that the Jets would not pursue the future Hall of Famer if he becomes available this offseason.   “There’s no way that we’re looking to replace Mark Sanchez,” Ryan said on ESPN radio on Monday. “There’s no doubt… If they were ...

Phil B sounds off

Phillip B. Wilson of the Indianapolis Star has a tough job without question.  From his criticism of both Polian and Caldwell to fan reactions to his work, it's not been a pleasant year as he clearly points out in his blog today. On Polian: The man didn’t answer one question from the local media this season until I caused a fuss last week. Yet on a weekly basis he didn...

Buzz: Peyton Manning is NOT the answer for the Jets

That this headline was even necessary is truly disappointing. Gary Myers is trolling Jets fans with a Peyton Manning-to-the-Jets argument, like bloggers masquerading as NFL scouts do in the offseason, and we’re taking the bait. Peyton Manning to the Jets is an awful idea, and no convoluted logic can convince otherwise. It’s an asinine suggestion bred from the same womb of insanity...

Some Jags fans rooting for the Colts

Pete Prisco of CBS Sports lives in Jacksonville so he's got a pretty good pulse on the local crowd.  This week he's witnessing something that local talk radio shows are covering: They are now Indianapolis Colts fans. Yes, the team with the quarterback they hate. The team that has owned their division since they moved to it, the team that has been a counter-clash of cultures...

Peyton can cure Jets' & Sanchez ills

I t would be the Jets’ version of the Dream Team in 2012: Peyton Manning starting at quarterback for their win-now team and Mark Sanchez backing him up, absorbing every little piece of information he could from Eli’s big brother.
