The San Diego Chargers released veteran DE Luis Castillo Thursday. The move had been discussed between Castillo and the team several times.
Castillo, 28, who was drafted in the first round in 2005, is now considering catching on with another team.
While not considered a lock to make the roster, he may still have some left in the tank to contribute elsewhere. He's currently still nursing recurring back issues and should be healthy soon, sources say. The Chargers have invested heavily on young talent over the last few years, bringing in Corey Liuget, Kendall Reyes and Vaughn Martin.
Castillo recently signed a one-year, $1 million deal to stick with the team, but it obviously didn't pan out. He's missed a total of 30 games the past 6 seasons, including almost all of 2011, when he went down with a tibial plateau leg fracture.

Jackie Battle Lands in San Diego
The San Diego Chargers have signed running back Jackie Battle. Contract terms were not disclosed.
Fantasy Spin:
Battle is built like a tank at 6-2, 239 pounds, but his size did not translate to great power on the NFL gridiron, as he averaged a measly 3.8 yards per carry over his career with Kansas City. Ronnie Brown shall remain the preferred handcuff for Ryan Mathews in fantasy drafts.
