His deal includes a team option for a fifth season, standard for first-round picks. Reyes, a...

Chargers Insider: Let the games begin

The Chargers could have a potentially strong rotation at outside linebacker if Melvin Ingram is the real deal and others can stay healthy. Ingram will be fighting for snaps with Antwan Barnes, Travis LaBoy and Larry English opposite Shaun Phillips. Barnes led the team with 11 sacks last year. Ingram knows he was brought in to contribute immediately. "We believe we have gotten...

San Diego Chargers improved pass rush will be tested early

(photo credit: www.chargers.com) As almost all San Diego fans know, an improvement needed to be made to the Chargers pass rush this off season.  The front office addressed this on a few different fronts.  They drafted Melvin Ingram, the top rated pass rusher in the draft by many experts and teams, and Kendall Reyes, a versatile DT/DE from Connecticut with 32.5 tackles for loss...

How will the San Diego Chargers handle adversity in 2012?

The San Diego Chargers are entering a crucial season because they have not made the playoffs since the 2009 NFL season.  San Diego is fortunate that their 4-8 start to the 2008 season did not prevent them from making it to the postseason because their division rival Denver Broncos started that season at 7-5, but they choked.  San Diego was unable to overcome adversity in 2010 as...

The Chargers have now secured a contract with fifth round pick OG Johnnie Troutman. Safety Brandon Taylor, a third-round selection, and running back Edwin Baker, a seventh, remain unsigned. Troutman had a clean sheet as a senior, penalized not once on 885 plays while also not allowing a quarterback sack or pressure on 381 pass attempts. The 6-foot-4, 325-pounder injured himself in...

Junior Seau: He loved the game to death

Honestly over the past few years we have seen far too many NFL players pass, it is time for the NFL to look further into this issue of mental health and the impact that the physical nature of the game has on the lives of these young men.  I know it has been some time since the passing of Junior Seau but here are my thoughts:   Let’s go ahead and set the record straight, Junior...

Without contract distractions, rookies get reps

The Chargers are almost bucking tradition before the first offseason workouts start in earnest: their top picks have agreed to deals. For years the Chargers would square off with draft picks, most notably Philip Rivers in 2004 and Shawne Merriman in 2005, and see which side would blink first. Often those negotiations grew contentious and that year's prized rookie would miss...

What's Going On With Norv Turner?

Some questions can never be answered. Where is Jimmy Hoffa buried? How does Hugh Jackman keep getting cast in movies? Why did Arrested Development get canceled? Where these questions have underlying and, possibly, multiple answers, one question does not. That is, why does Norv Turner still have a job in San Diego? And an even better one; why was he ever hired?   After being hired...

Football, a game of violence

Football is a very violent game that many of us love to play and love to watch. You have to have a strong will to play the game. Football is not a game for the weak of heart, evidenced by Junior Seau the former San Diego Chargers and New England Patriots linebacker. Injuries are a big part of the game. The injuries come along with the violence. Some folks play the game and never...
