NFL teams have become adept at using social media to connect with their fan bases. But at some point, when seasons are going really, really bad, they have to know that posting anything – from charity events to team merchandise discounts — is going to get some backlash. That’s what happened this week with the San Diego Chargers, who decided to have a nice Black Friday sale. Fans took the chipper announcement and unleashed their feelings over what has become one of the most putrid seasons in San Diego in recent memory. The fans quickly piled on, tying the 15 percent creatively to the Chargers’ success rate this season and, of course, calling for head coach Norv Turner to be fired. (See all 609 comments and counting on the Chargers’ Facebook page.) There’s something to be said for going quietly into the night. Hat tip to the Union-Tribune

Chargers place LT Gaither on IR

The San Diego Chargers have placed left tackle Jared Gaither on injured reserve, ending an unproductive season for a player expected to shore up a shaky offensive line. Gaither played in only four games this season. He missed almost all of training camp and the first three games with a back injury. He injured his groin late in a loss at New Orleans and played in only two games since...

Chargers place Jared Gaither on IR

The San Diego Chargers have placed offensive tackle Jared Gaither (groin) on injured reserve. There’s no doubt that Gaither has the talent to play in the NFL, the problem is that he can’t stay healthy. var _CI = _CI || {}; (function() { var script = document.createElement('script'); ref = document.getElementsByTagName('script')[0]; _CI.counter = (_CI.counter...

San Diego Chargers: Week 12 NFL Power Rankings (#17)

Last week: 17 (+0) Record: 4-6 I think it’s time for the Chargers to go on their annual late season run. Unfortunately, just like the last 2 seasons, probably all this late season run is going to end up doing is saving Norv Turner’s and AJ Smith’s job and not actually help them make the playoffs. This week, they play Baltimore, who is overrated and generally struggles on the...

Gaither, Green miss Chargers' practice

The San Diego Chargers have a long list of injuries heading into Sunday's home game against Baltimore. The wobbly Chargers (4-6) are in dire need of a victory to keep their slim playoff hopes alive after losing two straight games and five of six. ''Obviously, we are playing one of the better teams in the league,'' coach Norv Turner said Wednesday. ''...

Chargers OT Jared Gaither Place On IR

Michael Gehlken of the San Diego Union Tribune reports that the Chargers LT Jared Gaither was placed on IR because a groin injury after only appearing in 4 games all season long. “It’s an injury,” Gaither said. “Those things happen. You can’t get yourself down. You have to continue to support the guys and work to get out there myself. Of course, it’s disappointing. Anytime...

Ravens way of Rivers in rematch with Chargers

The Baltimore Ravens usually have a tough time against San Diego Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers. Fortunately, they won't have to face him Sunday without safety Ed Reed as the last line of defense. Reed, an eight-time Pro Bowl star, was suspended for one game on Monday for repeated helmet-to-helmet hits. He appealed the suspension and on Tuesday the punishment was reduced...

Baltimore Ravens at San Diego Chargers: Week 12 NFL Pick

Baltimore Ravens (8-2) at San Diego Chargers (4-6) The Chargers haven’t beaten a team other than the Chiefs since week 2, when they beat the Titans, who aren’t exactly great either and then before that they beat Oakland. Why would anyone pick them to beat the Ravens? Well, that seems to be the public sentiment this week as the public is pounding Baltimore as small road favorites...

Ravens hope to beat the Qualcomm Jinx in San Diego...

The Ravens (8-2) fly to San Diego this weekend to play the Chargers in a 4:00 game (EST, Sunday, Nov.25)...and even though the Chargers are 4-6, they are being picked by a lot of media "experts" to beat the Ravens. This is because Baltimore has a history of playing their worst games against San Diego in Qualcomm stadium. Maybe it's the "Curse ofJohnny Unitas...

Ravens-Chargers Preview

There's no question that the Baltimore Ravens are the better - and hotter - team in Sunday's road matchup with the San Diego Chargers. Still, overconfidence shouldn't be a problem after what transpired last season. With revenge in the back of their minds and star safety Ed Reed available, the Ravens seek a fourth straight win against a Chargers team teetering on the...

It's Time for Reid and Turner To Be Relieved as Head Coaches

When it comes to finding out whether or not head coaches are getting through to their teams, the biggest indication is if the team is giving their maximum effort. Looking at the performances of the Philadelphia Eagles and San Diego Chargers last Sunday, it appears the respective coaches have lost their team. The Eagles lost 31-6 to the Washington Redskins, which drops the team to...
